Maruti Estimate A Monthly Production Of Up To 9,000 Units For Grand Vitara | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki have 45,000 bookings for the Grand Vitara in 52 days. For any fresh bookings, they plan to deliver in about 22 - 24 weeks — or 154 - 168 days. This means that they can clear up the existing backlog of 45,000 orders in this timeframe before allocating cars to orders coming in September 2022.

This gives us an idea about the pace they intend to maintain during the next 5-6 months. On the upper limit, we are looking at 292 units per day (45,000 / 154 days) while the lower limit seems like 268 units per day (45,000 / 168 days). Extrapolating these numbers to a 30-day period, we get a monthly production estimate of 8,040 - 8,760 units. Keeping in mind that some months will also have 31 days, we can expect the production to go up to 9,000 units in some months but it should hover mostly in the 8,000 - 9,000 range.

We are expecting this volume at least for the first 6-month period. Once the hype dies down, we’ll get to know if the demand goes up or down from the word-of-mouth marketing. By then, Maruti Suzuki will also have a realistic idea about the sustainable demand and volume for the Grand Vitara volume as well as the breakdown of demand for each engine-transmission-variant combination. Based on that information, Maruti Suzuki may increase or decrease the production of the Grand Vitara.

Right now, our 8,000 - 9,000 estimate suggests that it’ll probably not have a huge impact on the sales of the Creta, which sustains 10,000 - 13,000 units every month. But, it could push the Seltos out of 2nd spot. Currently, the monthly production of the Seltos stays in the range of 7,500 and 9,000 units. It’s also likely to eat into the market share of low-volume SUVs like the Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun and MG Astor while stealing some volumes from sedans like the Virtus and Slavia.

The biggest threat in the Nexa Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder’s paths remain the South Korean models — Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. By the time we get an idea of what volumes the Grand Vitara and Hyryder can sustain, it’ll be time for a mid-life update for the Creta and Seltos. Both of them are sure to pack some big guns like ADAS and a notable design overhaul to take on the competition.
