2022 Alto Engine Options

The new Alto is likely to retain the same 0.8L normal petrol engine with the update. However, it’s unclear if the engine will get the dual-jet technology, which is now available with the 1.0L and 1.2L engines in Maruti’s portfolio. With this tech, the cars are able to deliver phenomenal mileage figures, at least in the city. Since Maruti tune their cars for city use, their highway mileage figures are good but not groundbreaking.

2022 Alto K10 Comeback?

With the update, we’re hoping to see the 1.0L engine make a return under the Alto’s bonnet. With the dual-jet technology, the 1.0L engine can give the Alto a good performance bump along with a substantial improvement in the mileage figures. We’ve already seen what this engine is capable of with the Celerio’s mileage figures. The Celerio claims to deliver up to 26.7kmpl with the AMT automatic transmission.

If the Alto gets this engine option, then we may see the K10 badge return to the Alto. The Alto K10 first launched in 2010 and stayed in service even after the Alto’s generation update. It offered the more powerful 1.0L petrol engine for some additional cost over the 0.8L variants. On the performance front, the 0.8L engine is good for 48PS of power and 69Nm of torque. The 1.0L brings the power and torque figures up to 66PS and 89Nm, respectively.

New Maruti Arena Alto Design

The 2022 Alto will be bigger than the model it replaces. We can see increased width and height in the images, with a curvier design approach. At the fenders, we can see clear lens turn indicators whereas the top variants of the Alto could also feature body-coloured ORVMs. Like the new Celerio, the new Alto will also get flap-type body-coloured outside door handles.

The similarities between the Celerio and Alto continue at the rear as well. The new Alto gets a curvier rear design with round tail lights. It however misses out on a rear wiper and washer to save cost. It is worth noting that the new Alto could feature bigger 13-inch wheels whereas the current-gen Alto comes with 12-inch wheels.

We can expect the 2022 Alto to offer a modern dashboard layout along with a few modern touches. The higher variant could feature a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, all 4 power windows and a rear camera.
