The luxury carmaker has stated that the price hike is a result of rising input costs. “The constant increase in input costs in addition to an increase in logistics costs have been exerting significant pressure on the overall costs of the company. The rising input costs also led to a significant increase in the company’s operational costs, prompting Mercedes-Benz to revise the ex-showroom price of the entire model range in its endeavour to operate a sustainable and fundamentally strong business,” said the brand.

The German carmaker stated that the price hike will help offset higher input and manufacturing costs. One of Mercedes-Benz’s key competitors, Audi, recently announced a price hike of 3% on their lineup too. Audi too has cited increased manufacturing costs as the reason behind the price hike.

One of the key reasons for the increase in manufacturing costs is the shortage of semiconductor chips, which is affecting the entire automobile industry. Expect other car manufacturers to announce price hikes in the coming weeks.
