2024 Tata Curvv ICE (Petrol, Diesel) Expected Price - With Logic (Updated: Jul 29) | V3Cars
In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the upcoming Curvv SUV — Tata’s new SUV to rival some well-rounded C-segment SUVs like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and MG Astor. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations along with the reasons to support our conclusions in the Curvv expected price table. As and when we get more information affecting our estimations about the Tata Curvv price, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.
Update (Jul 29, 2024): This update of our estimations for the Tata Curvv price (Curvv petrol/Curvv diesel price expectations) is based on the information available as of July 29, 2024. We have recently learned that Tata will bring the Curvv with two 1.2L turbo petrol engines — each with a manual and DCT automatic transmission — and a 1.5L turbo diesel engine. The diesel will also get the manual and automatic transmission option.

Tata — A History Of Overpricing
If there’s one thing that’s constant among Tata cars, that’s overpricing. It’s especially true among cars, which enter the so-called SUV segments. The 2023 Nexon launched with our expected starting price but blew past Rs. 15.0 lakh psychological barrier like it was nothing. The Punch EV managed to stay somewhat around our expected price range but it too didn’t respect the important psychological barrier of Rs. 15.0 lakh. Similarly, our price expectations for the Safari and Harrier were also off by as much as 6.0 - 6.5% for some higher variants. Although, all of those breaches are now mostly in line with our price expectations once you factor in the ongoing discounts on the Nexon, Safari and Harrier.
Tata Curvv Variants — A History Of Confusing
Just like the Nexon, Altroz, Punch, Harrier and Safari, you can also count on Tata to have a large number of variants — if not at the time of launch, at least a few months down the line. By ‘large’, we mean, at least more than 50. No wonder our Nexon variants explained article and video get so many viewers. It’s so damn confusing, that we’ve received clips from our viewers of Tata dealers playing our videos on their large showroom screens to explain variant differences to their customers.
This confuses not just the buyers, but even the sales staff and Tata’s own team responsible for preparing the marketing collateral on the cars. We too couldn’t manage to escape this without a scratch and sometimes miss out on details here and there in our variants explained articles for Tata cars.

*Powertrain = unique engine-transmission combination
For now, let’s assume, the Curvv petrol will get 7 main variants just like the Nexon. From there, they will get derived variants like S (sunroof), DT (dual-tone), Dark (basically just black colour exterior and interior).
Among these 7 variants, we expect all of them to get the base petrol-manual and diesel-manual powertrains, just like the competition (Creta/Seltos). Base petrol-automatic and more powerful petrol-manual as well as automatic may remain available in higher variants. Same goes for diesel-automatic variants.
Besides these, we expect some 5 variants of EVs with lower battery capacity and 3 with the larger battery pack. We’ll discuss the expected price of these separately in another article.

Tata Curvv Petrol Price Range (Expected)
Here’s a thought: we have always expected Tata to price their products aggressively — or at least sanely — and we have always been wrong to think Tata would do that. Statistically, it’d be unwise to expect Tata to price the Curvv at a point that would make it a successful product without a shadow of doubt.
BUT — here’s another thought: Tata’s overconfidence is getting tested in recent times as they have to give Rs. 1.0 lakh discounts on the Nexon and almost Rs. 1.50 lakh discounts on the Safari and Harrier. Finally, the prices are — more or less — coming back to where we expected them to be at the time of launch in late 2023.
Moreover, unlike the new Nexon, which was already an established top dog in its segment, the Curvv is entering a crowded market with well-settled players like Creta, Seltos and Vitara. To make matters worse, the 5-door Thar Armada is also going to take away any sales from the buyers who want something other than an ‘ordinary’ C-SUV.
The ace up the Curvv’s sleeve are the two 1.2L turbo petrol engines. While the Creta, Vitara and Seltos offer a 1.5L normal petrol engine, the Curvv gets a torquey turbo petrol engine. So, the Curvv will offer better drivability and in-gear acceleration. The 1.2L turbo petrol engine also helps them position themselves above the other cars with a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. The Kushaq and Taigun not only offer a smaller turbo petrol engine in lower variants and less torque output, with their compact dimensions, they also can’t match the Curvv’s road presence.
Here’s a look at our expected prices of the 2024 Tata Curvv petrol variants along with the tentative variant lineup:

Given that they are launching the new 1.2L turbo petrol engine with direct injection and DCT for the first time, we should expect them to keep this out of reach for some buyers. Selling it at a higher price and thus limiting its reach among buyers will give Tata to iron out any bugs in these powertrains before making this the default 1.2L turbo petrol engine in their product lineup.
Tata Curvv Diesel Price Range (Expected)
Just like the Nexon, the Curvv will also get a diesel and it’s the familiar 4-cylinder 1.5L turbo diesel engine. They offer it in the Altroz also. We weren’t expecting Tata to offer the diesel engine with any automatic, let alone a DCT automatic. But our source has confirmed this to us. So, we have updated our price expectations.
While we can’t say with confidence if Tata will bring the Curvv the diesel-manual powertrain in all variants, we have to assume that they will at least follow the segment standards and offer it in all variants.

Tata Curvv 2024 — Expected Price Summary
We expect the Tata Curvv prices to start from Rs. 11.0 lakh base model with the base 1.2L turbo petrol-manual powertrain. Higher variants will also get a more powerful 1.2L turbo petrol engine with direct injection. The top model with this petrol-manual powertrain could cost as much as Rs. 19.70 lakh carrying a premium of Rs. 50,000 over the base petrol engine.
Over the comparable variants with manual powertrains, the DCT automatic variants could cost about Rs. 1.20 lakh more. Meanwhile, the diesel variants could cost Rs. 1.30 lakh more than the comparable base petrol variants. Thus the Curvv diesel variants could cost between Rs. 12.30 lakh for the base manual variant and Rs. 20.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top model with diesel-automatic powertrain.
