Nissan Confirm Creta-Rival SUV For Launch In 2026 – 7-Seater Version To Follow Later | V3Cars

Nissan India have offered the first official glimpse of their upcoming C-segment SUV, slated for launch in India during FY2025-26. This new SUV, which share its platform with the Renault Duster, will be produced at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai for both domestic sales and export markets.

New C-Segment SUV From Nissan – What We Know So Far

Positioned to directly compete with popular C-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the new Nissan SUV aims to revitalise Nissan’s presence in the highly competitive SUV segment. Its arrival will follow the launch of Nissan’s 7-seat B-segment MPV, further expanding the brand’s portfolio in India.

Upcoming Nissan SUV To Feature Patrol-Inspired Design

While sharing its underlying CMF-B platform and rugged silhouette with the new Renault Duster, Nissan has clearly focused on creating a distinct visual identity for their upcoming SUV. Based on the teaser image, we can confidently say that the design takes inspiration from the larger Nissan Patrol.

Key design elements revealed in the teasers include:

  • Front Fascia: L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) connected by a chrome strip, a horizontally slatted grille with the Nissan logo at the center, and 2 thin chrome bars running across the grille. Reshaped front bumpers with thick C-shaped silver cladding and slimmer headlights further differentiate it from the Duster.
  • Profile: Features a rugged silhouette similar to the Duster. Likely to feature large alloy wheels.
  • Bonnet: Features prominent creases and scoops, adding to the SUV’s robust design.

It’s important to note that the teaser showcases a concept version, and some design elements may be toned down in the final production model.

Upcoming Nissan SUV To Get Upmarket, Tech-Loaded Interior

While Nissan haven’t revealed interior images, the layout is expected to be similar to the Renault Duster. However, we expect Nissan’s version to boast a more upmarket look and feel along with some additional features.

Expected interior highlights include:

  • Infotainment: A driver-oriented 10.1-inch central infotainment touchscreen.
  • Instrumentation: A 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • Convenience: 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, and drive modes.
  • Safety: While the international Duster offers ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), it remains unconfirmed whether this technology will be available on the India-spec Nissan SUV.

2026 Nissan SUV Powertrain Specs

The upcoming Nissan SUV is expected to be a petrol-only model at launch. We expect it to come equipped with a 1.3L turbo-petrol engine, which produces 154PS of power and 250Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). It remains to be seen if the India-spec model will receive a lower variant with a manual gearbox and a higher variant with an all-wheel Drive (AWD) system.

We expect Nissan to position their new SUV higher than their previous C-segment offering, the Terrano, and also above the upcoming Renault Duster. Also, given the Terrano’s limited success in the Indian market, we believe Nissan could adopt a fresh new nameplate for this crucial new model.

Nissan will kickstart their new growth strategy with the launch of a B-segment MPV based on the Renault Triber. This new MPV is likely to go on sale during the 2025 festive season. Apart from the MPV and Duster's cousin SUV, Nissan have also confirmed a 7-seat SUV similar to the Renault Bigster. This SUV could launch by the end of FY2026 alongside the Renault Bigster. Nissan India also plan to launch an affordable EV, the next-gen Magnite and the new X-Trail SUV in the coming years.
