Here’s what we know so far about the 2024 Thar 5 Door.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door Images Leaked Ahead Of Launch

Ahead of its official debut, images of the Thar 5 Door were leaked online recently. The leaked images show the revised front end, extra set of doors and other details of the upcoming Thar 5 Door. 

As seen in previous spy shots, the 2024 Mahindra Thar 5 Door will feature LED projector headlamps with C-shaped LED DRLs built into them.  The other obvious change over the Thar 3 Door is the front grille, which features six double-stacked vertical slots. Other design highlights at the front include a silver skid plate, LED turn indicators, bonnet release clamps, fog lamps, etc.

The second leaked image of the Thar 5 Door gave us a partial glimpse of the SUV’s side profile. It reveals a camera placed under the ORVM cover, suggesting the Thar 5 Door will offer a 360-degree surround view camera system for easy manoeuvring through tight spaces and parking lots. Another interesting detail worth noting is the rear door handle, which is mounted higher up the door frame, similar to the door handles on cars such as the Chevrolet Beat and previous-gen Swift.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door Interiors And Features

Spy shots from May 2024 gave us a clear view into the Thar 5 Door’s cabin. The spy shots revealed the 2nd row seating layout and space on offer. The Thar 5 Door test mule featured a flat bench seat with a decent amount of underthigh support and generous legroom for 2nd row passengers. The rear doors featured a large bottle holder, a silver ‘Thar’ applique, and a large quarter glass section.

Other details that were visible in the spy shots included a sunroof, height-adjustable seatbelts for the driver and front co-passenger, multi-function steering wheel, sturdy grab rails for all doors, and more.   

The upcoming Thar 5 Door will also get a revamped dashboard in the form of a larger touchscreen infotainment system. While the Thar 3 Door features a 7.0-inch screen, the Thar 5 Door is expected to ship with a larger 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. We expect it to offer Android Auto and Apple CarPlay apart from showcasing various off-road data. While the rest of the dashboard looks the same as the one in the Thar 3 Door, the steering wheel seems to be borrowed from the XUV700. 

Meanwhile, rear passengers get floor-mounted AC vents placed in between the driver and front passenger seats. The additional vents should help cool the larger cabin of the Thar 5 Door quickly. The rear window, meanwhile, looks quite narrow but gets a large quarter glass to aid visibility.

2024 Mahindra Thar 5 Door Expected Powertrain Details

In terms of powertrains, we expect the new Thar 5 Door to retain the same 2.2L turbo diesel and the 2.0L turbo petrol engine options as the Thar 3 Door. However, both engines could offer more power and torque than the Thar 3 Door to overcome the extra weight. Both engine options are likely to come with manual and automatic transmission options along with 2WD and 4WD drivetrains. 

In the Scorpio N, the 2.2L turbo diesel engine comes in 2 states of tune — 130PS and 175PS. We expect Mahindra to offer the Thar 5 Door diesel with the higher power output while the Thar 5 Door petrol is expected to produce 200PS of power from its 2.0L turbo petrol engine. Both engines are likely to be offered with a 6-speed manual and 6-ped torque converter automatic transmission options.

2024 Mahindra Thar 5 Door Rivals

The new Thar 5 door will not only compete with the Maruti Suzuki Jimny but also the new Force Gurkha 5 door.
