Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Expected By 2024-25; Regular Model Updates In The Pipeline | V3Cars
Volkswagen India contests in the highly competitive C1-segment SUV space with the Taigun. The Taigun was launched in India in September 2021 and since then the carmaker has offered a few updates to the model’s variants, features and exterior colours. Volkswagen plan to continue such revisions to the Taigun going forward to ensure that the car remains fresh in the segment that now fetches around 40,000 new buyers every month!

V3Cars recently visited Volkswagen’s Pune plant and caught up with the company’s Brand Director, Ashish Gupta, to understand VW’s plans for the Indian market. Ashish specified that the carmaker doesn’t plan to introduce any brand new locally-manufactured models in the near future, but we can expect regular updates to the existing cars. While VW doesn’t have a fixed timeline for introduction of updates or revisions to its existing cars, the carmaker plans to offer some changes every 6 months or so to keep its made-in-India cars like the Taigun and Virtus fresh.
Volkswagen is known to offer long life cycles to its models; cars like the Polo and Vento had an extended stay in the Indian market where manufacturers usually offer a full model change to their cars every 5-6 years.

Ashish clearly told V3Cars that Volkswagen had a 7 year (4+3) lifecycle planned for its cars in the past, where a facelift would hit the market in 4 years followed by a full model change in 7. Considering the fact that India is a fast-paced market, the carmaker is now looking at reducing the lifecycle to 6 (3+3) years.
If Volkswagen has to shift to a 6 (3+3) year lifecycle of its models, then the Taigun will receive a facelift in 2024-25 as it was launched in India in 2021-22. Likewise, the Virtus, which was launched in 2022-23, should get its mid-life update in 2025-26.
