Tata Punch EV Spotted On Test Once Again

A new set of images reveal a Tata Punch EV plugged to a charger near a fuel station. Currently, Tata EVs, like the Nexon EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV, get a charging port on the side, behind what is otherwise the fuel filler cap on the petrol and diesel-powered cars. The Punch EV is set to buck the trend by featuring a front mounted charging port. It is worth noting that the Punch EV is based on the brand’s ALFA architecture, which was designed with electrification in mind.

Since the test car was wrapped in camouflage, it is hard to make out more details. However, earlier spy shots of the Punch EV revealed a few interesting features, including rear disc brakes, electronic parking brake, rotary gear selector, and multi-level regenerative braking.

Tata Punch EV Expected Powertrain Details

Since the Tata Punch EV will sit below the Nexon EV Prime, we expect it to share its powertrain with the Tigor EV, albeit with a slightly larger battery pack. The Tigor EV comes with a 26kWh battery pack whereas the Nexon EV Prime packs a 30.2kWh battery. Even if we assume that the Punch EV will come with a 28kWh battery pack, it will sit very close to the Nexon EV Prime. Hence, we can’t rule out Tata Motors discontinuing the Nexon EV Prime to leave a bit of breathing space for the Punch EV.

Tata Punch EV Launch Details

Tata Motors are likely to reveal the new Punch EV around September 2023 and announce the prices closer to the 2023 festive season. The new Punch EV will rival the Citroen eC3, which is an electric counterpart of the petrol-powered C3.
