Global NCAP To End “Safer Cars For India” Program — Bharat NCAP To Take Charge From October | V3Cars
At the launch of the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP), David Ward, executive president, Global NCAP, revealed that GNCAP will not continue to test cars under the ‘safer cars for India’ campaign once Bharat NCAP comes into effect.
Global NCAP “Safar Cars For India” Campaign To End By Year End
David Ward revealed that Global NCAP has around 10 more tests in the pipeline, the results of which will be announced by the end of this year and that will be it. The program will stop functioning once the Bharat NCAP becomes fully operational. David Ward mentioned, “we absolutely don’t want to be seen as a rival programme to Bharat NCAP. It’d be very confusing to the consumer, and it doesn’t serve anybody’s interests”.

Global NCAP To Provide Technical Support To Bharat NCAP
While Global NCAP is set to wrap up its programme for the Indian market, it will offer technical support and expertise that it has gained over the last 10 years. Global NCAP has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Central Institute for Road Transport (CIRT) to collaborate with Bharat NCAP and help the local testing body with expertise, various SoPs and best practices.
The technicalities are said to include detailed technical aspects to select a vehicle for testing and also rules to engage with the media over the test results. Furthermore, it will also suggest guidelines for usage of test results by car manufacturers in advertisements.

Over the last 10 years, the Indian programme of Global NCAP, which is Safer Cars For India, conducted 62 tests of over 50 models. The programme plans to conduct 10 more tests before wrapping its operations before the end of 2023. Since the Bharat NCAP follows the testing protocols of Global NCAP, we expect the testing standards to be around the same lines as that of the Global NCAP.
