Tata Harrier Completes 1 Lakh Sales Milestone | V3Cars

The Tata Harrier has just achieved its first major sales milestone. Tata have revealed that the Harrier has achieved the 1 lakh unit sales milestone. The Harrier SUV achieved this milestone in a little over 4 years, which is quite commendable since it rivals well-established C-segment SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and also takes on another popular and homegrown SUV – the Mahindra XUV700. Take a look at how the Harrier achieved the latest milestone and what’s in store for the SUV in the near future.

Tata Harrier’s Journey Towards 1 Lakh Sales

The Tata Harrier was first showcased as a concept called the H5X at the 2018 Auto Expo. It heralded Tata’s Impact Design 2.0 design language and won the hearts of the crowd with its exuberant styling. In January 2019, Tata launched the Harrier SUV and to the surprise of many, they retained most of the design highlights of the concept SUV. The muscular stance of the Harrier and its rugged Land Rover-derived platform meant Tata finally had a worthy contender to take on the Mahindra XUV500. However, the initial batch of the Harrier lacked some essential features and it did not offer the option of a diesel-automatic powertrain either. To make matters worse, customers complained of fit and finish issues as well. However, Tata Motors rectified these issues with the launch of the BS6-compliant Harrier in 2020.

In 2021, Tata Motors brought the Safari nameplate back from the dead by extending the Harrier’s length and adding a 3rd row of seats. If not for the launch of the Safari, there’s no doubt in our minds that the Harrier would have achieved the 1 lakh sales milestone even sooner. The launch of the Safari stole some of the limelight away from the Harrier as prospective customers began shifting their focus towards the Safari’s practicality over the Harrier’s styling. After all, the Safari only cost around Rs. 1 lakh more than the equivalent variants of the Harrier and it offered more space and features as well.

Tata Harrier Sets The All-Black Trend

Back in 2019, Tata Motors launched the Dark edition of the Harrier just ahead of the festive season. The all-black treatment quickly became popular among Harrier buyers as it gave their SUVs a sinister look. Since the launch of the Harrier Dark edition, the all-back treatment has trickled its way onto most Tata offerings today. The popularity of the Dark edition reached such heights that India’s leading carmaker — Maruti Suzuki — launched their range of all-black vehicles under the Nexa Black and Arena Black range. It even prompted Hyundai to launch the Creta Knight Edition to counter the popularity of Tata’s all-black SUVs.

This year, the Tata Harrier Dark edition was joined by the Harrier Red Dark edition. You can read more about it here

2023 Tata Harrier Facelift In The Works

The Tata Harrier is set to receive its first major mid-life update later this year. We expect the Harrier facelift to feature a major design overhaul and an even longer list of features. While the Harrier Red Dark brought the much-needed ADAS features and a new infotainment system, we expect to see a more cohesive implementation of the new features with the Harrier facelift.
