2023 Tata Nexon Lower Variants Likely To Offer Less Power Than Current Model | V3Cars
While the current version of the Tata Nexon turbo petrol produces 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque, latest reports from (a) fairly reliable source(s) suggest that the new Nexon 2023 could get the turbo petrol engine with a 5-speed manual as well as a 6-speed manual transmission options. The reports also suggest that the automatic transmission options with the Nexon (facelift) could include an AMT and a new DCT. We are expecting it to borrow the 1.2L turbo petrol engine with 5-speed manual from the Altroz. This powertrain is already in Tata’s portfolio and the 5-speed manual, instead of a 6-speed, could help keep the starting prices competitive with the Venue 1.2L, Sonet 1.2L and the new XUV300 W2 petrol-manual.
If the report’s claims that the Nexon petrol could get an AMT as well as a DCT automatic turn out to be true, then this will become the first time we see the Altroz turbo’s engine with a 5-speed AMT automatic.
V3Cars Insight: 2023 Tata Nexon With Altroz’ Turbo Petrol Engine
The current Tata Nexon comes with a 1.2L turbo petrol engine with a 6-speed manual transmission along with a 6-speed AMT. The choice to go with this engine will allow Tata Motors to bring the starting price of the Nexon lower as it might use a 5-speed manual transmission instead of the 6-speed. The Sonet, Venue, Kiger and Magnite also have 2 petrol engine options to make their starting price. Such a move will also help Tata offer the new Nexon 2023 petrol variants to buyers who are not seeking performance from their car.
However, if it also gets the AMT automatic, then the Nexon 2023 will become the first car to get this engine-transmission combination. Meanwhile, they may reserve the DCT automatic for the higher variants where buyers expected premium, more responsive automatic transmissions. We’re not expecting the Nexon to get the 1.2L normal petrol engine and an AMT from the Tiago as it will feel terribly underpowered for the heavier and larger Nexon.

Hence, the lower variants of the new Nexon could produce the same amount of power and torque as the Altroz (110PS and 140Nm). Meanwhile, the higher variants could continue to produce 120PS of power and 170Nm of torque and offer a 6-speed manual and a new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Such a move will further establish the Tata Nexon as a premium B2-segment SUV since the Venue, Sonet, Magnite, Kiger and the Brezza, all offer a more premium CVT-, DCT- or TC-type automatic transmission.
