At the launch of the EQS 53 AMG, Mercedes-Benz confirmed they would launch the EQB 7-seater family SUV in Q4 of 2022. We expect Mercedes-Benz India to showcase the EQB family SUV at the 2023 Auto Expo.

The EQB will come with 7 seats and sit below the EQC in the EQ lineup of sedans and SUVs. Mercedes considered the GLB for the Indian market a couple of years ago but the German carmaker is now betting big on green mobility with its electric vehicle range as they plan to go all-electric by 2030.

On the design front, the EQB gets a new front fascia, featuring an enclosed grille and connected headlights. Towards the side, the EQB resembles the GLB whereas its rear profile gets connected LED tail lights, giving it a unique identity. The inside of the EQB is similar to that of the GLB SUV. The dashboard comes with a twin-screen setup — like in all new Mercedes models. However, the EQB comes with blue ambient lighting for the dashboard, AC vents and door cards.

Mercedes-EQ offer the EQB with 2 drivetrain options — 300 4Matic and 350 4Matic. The EQB 300 offers 228PS of power and 390Nm of torque. The EQB 350, on the other hand, offers 292PS of power and 520Nm of torque. Both the 300 and 350 models come with a 66.5kWh battery pack, 4-wheel-drive and a single-speed transmission. Both models offer a WLTP-certified range of 419km on a single charge. With the help of a 100kW DC fast charger, the EQB can be charged from 0-80% in just 32 minutes.

The EQB will benefit from Mercedes-Benz’ large charging network, which will span to 140+ chargers. The 140+ chargers will include 20+ 180kW ultra fast chargers, 20+ 60kW DC fast chargers and 100+ 22kW AC chargers. The EQB will sit below the EQC SUV in the Indian market. It will rival other premium electric SUVs like the Volvo XC40 Recharge and Kia EV6. Mercedes-Benz could locally assemble the EQB to keep the costs in check. Before the launch of the EQB, Mercedes-Benz will launch the locally-assembled EQS 580 in the country.
