Mahindra Thar 5 Door Global Debut Likely On August 15

Since the last couple of years, Mahindra have unveiled a new product every year around August 15, or Independence Day, and this year is not likely to be any different. An official invitation from Mahindra confirmed that the carmaker will unveil its global SUV on August 15. Mahindra have been testing the Thar 5 door for some time now and that is currently the only other ICE-SUV in Mahindra’s testing phase other than the XUV300 facelift. Mahindra will host a global event in Cape Town, South Africa from August 14 - 17, 2023. The event will mark the debut of the new global SUV and Mahindra’s new OJA global tractor platform.

2023 Mahindra Thar 5 Door Changes Over Thar 3 Door

The spy shots of the Thar 5 door gave us an idea about its silhouette and exterior design changes. While it will retain the rugged and upright stance of the Thar 3 door, the addition of a proper metal roof and 2 extra doors will make it a more family-friendly SUV. The addition of a metal roof will also bring in a single-pane sunroof, since it was spotted on a test car as well. In terms of dimensions too, the Thar 5 door is likely to boast a considerably larger wheelbase than the Thar 3 door and offer improved 2nd-row space and more boot space.

On the powertrain front, the Thar 5 door is likely to carry the same 2.0L turbo petrol and 2.2L turbo diesel as the Thar 3 door, albeit in a higher state of tune. The power and torque figures of the Thar 5 door could match that of the Scorpio N and XUV700.

Mahindra Thar 5 Door India Launch Timeline

In a recent press meeting, Mahindra’s executive director for auto and farm sectors Rakesh Jejurikar revealed that the launch of the Thar 5 door is slated for 2024. However, we think that Mahindra will reveal the Thar 5 door on August 15 and also open bookings for the rugged family SUV. Mahindra wouldn’t want to miss the chance to capitalise on the upcoming festive season and garner orders for their newest SUV. Its launch, on the other hand, could take place in early 2024, as informed by the carmaker.
