Kia Carens Petrol Base 5-Seater Variant Homologated | V3Cars
The Kia Carens MPV will soon receive an update to help it comply with upcoming BS6 phase-2 emission standards. Along with the engine update, Kia are also likely to offer a new base variant with a 5-seater configuration.
Kia Carens 5-Seater Base Variant Homologated
According to a leaked document, Kia will offer a new base variant of the Carens MPV with a 5-seater configuration. The Carens 5-seater will get the 1.5L normal petrol engine and the variant is likely to be called the ‘P-Drive’. The P-Drive variant of the Carens will also offer a 7-seater configuration with the normal petrol engine, albeit at a slightly higher price than the P-Drive 5-seater variant.

The introduction of the new 5-seater variant will bring the Carens closer to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and XL6 MPVs. The Kia Carens’ prices currently range from Rs. 10.20 lakh to Rs. 18.45 lakh (ex-showroom). With the introduction of the new 5-seater variant, the 2023 Carens prices could start from under Rs. 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
Currently, no MPV in the segment offers an option of a 5-seater configuration and the Carens will become the first MPV to offer this seating configuration. This will result in a massive, and probably class-leading, luggage carrying capacity.
2023 Kia Carens Powertrain Details
The 2023 Kia Carens will continue with the same 1.5L normal petrol engine as the current model. The Hyundai Creta, with which the Kia Carens shares this 1.5L normal petrol engine, has already received its BS6 phase-2 update. Hence, it won’t be long before the Kia Carens receives BS6 phase-2 compliance certification as well.
The 1.5L turbo diesel engine will also continue to serve the Kia Carens with the option of a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Here’s a look at the power and torque output of the 1.5L normal petrol and 1.5L turbo diesel engine of the current Kia Carens.

The 1.4L turbo petrol engine of the current Kia Carens, on the other hand, is likely to be replaced with a new 1.5L turbo petrol engine. Hyundai have already announced the new 1.5L turbo petrol engine for the new Alcazar SUV and upcoming Verna sedan. The 1.5L turbo petrol engine is likely to offer 2 transmission options – a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission options.
2023 Kia Carens Launch And Price Details
Kia are likely to announce the prices of the 2023 Carens MPV in the next couple of months. It will continue to rival other MPVs in the segment, such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Maruti Nexa XL6, Mahindra Marazzo and Toyota Innova Crysta.
