Volkswagen’s Future Plans After India 2.0 — What Can We Expect | V3Cars
Volkswagen India have completed their India 2.0 project with the successful launch of the Taigun C-Segment SUV and Virtus C-Segment sedan. The India 2.0 project also saw the launch of the Skoda Kushaq and Skoda Slavia that are siblings to Volkswagen’s latest offerings. Now, Skoda India announced their plans to launch a sub-compact SUV but Volkswagen India are yet to break the silence on their future offerings.
Skoda India will make use of the existing and heavily-localised MQB-A0 IN platform for their upcoming sub-compact SUV under its new India 2.5 project. On the other hand, Volkswagen India are looking at various options. One option is to join hands with Skoda to roll out a Volkswagen sub-compact SUV based on the MQB-A0 IN platform, or jump directly to India 3.0 project. The latter could include imported and localised electric vehicles.

Volkswagen have confirmed the launch of the ID 4 electric crossover and are now testing the car for Indian conditions. You can read more about the upcoming ID 4 here. Their Czech sibling, Skoda, are also likely to launch the Enyaq iV electric crossover as it has also been spied on our roads. While we can not confirm Volkswagen’s future plans for India, the German carmaker will continue to offer fully-imported vehicles to keep their fans happy. In addition to that, Volkswagen are also working on a budget electric hatchback for the European markets that will hit the streets in 2025. This model could serve other markets like India and Brazil as well.
We expect Volkswagen to plan a comeback for the Polo GTI under the 2,500 CBU import rule. Back in 2016, Volkswagen brought the previous-gen Polo GTI 2-door in limited numbers. The new model, however, will offer 4 doors and better practicality. We can also expect other CBU models, such as the Tiguan AllSpace family SUV, as well.

Currently, Volkswagen India offer the Virtus sedan, Taigun SUV and Tiguan SUV. The ageing Polo and the Vento have finally been taken off the shelves by Volkswagen. While the Vento serves as a spiritual successor to the Vento, the brand has no plans to introduce a replacement for the Polo anytime soon.
