Brand-Wise Q4 2022 Car Sales - YoY Change
- Most brands reported a growth in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to their car sales figures from Q4 2021. The only brands that witnessed a drop in sales were Datsun (defunct), Jeep, Nissan and Toyota.
- In terms of percentage, Citroen posted the best YoY improvement of over 2,000% in Q4 of 2022 because of the low numbers in Q4 of 2021. It is worth noting that Citroen is not yet a mass volume manufacturer in India.
- Among the mass volume carmakers, Kia posted the best growth in Q4 2022 comparison analysis, with a 63% rise in sales in Q4 of 2022 over Q4 of 2021.
- Mahindra posted the second best YoY growth of around 60% in Q4 of 2022 versus Q4 of 2021.
- The biggest losers were Jeep and Nissan with about 15% decline in sales in Q4 of 2022 compared to Q4 of 2021.
- Nissan’s cousin Renault barely saved itself from a decline in quarterly numbers, with just 0.68% growth in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to that of Q4 2021.
- Datsun stopped operating in India over the past year, with just 780 units sold in the last quarter of 2021. That is an exceptionally low number considering their target market. Datsun was competing with strong rivals like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, which sold over 4 lakh units combined across all segments.
