  • Maruti Suzuki launched the first generation Swift hatchback in 2005
  • It was initially offered with a 1.3L petrol engine borrowed from the Esteem
  • The Swift gained the popular Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre diesel engine in 2007
  • The first-generation Swift received a facelift in 2009
  • In 2010, Maruti Suzuki replaced the ageing 1.3-litre petrol engine with a brand new 1.2-litre K-series petrol engine to meet BS4 emission norms
  • Maruti Suzuki introduced the second generation Swift in 2011 with the same engine options as its predecessor
  • In 2013, the Swift achieved its 1 million sales milestone in India
  • 2015 witnessed the introduction of the second-gen Swift facelift
  • The 2 million sales milestone was achieved shortly after the introduction of the third-gen Swift in 2018
  • The third-gen Swift continued to offer the same petrol and diesel engine as before until Maruti pulled the plug on all its diesel cars before the stricter BS6 emission norms kicked in
  • The third-gen Swift received a facelift along with a cleaner burning 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine in 2021
  • The facelift also saw the introduction of a factory-fitted CNG kit in the Swift
  • Maruti Suzuki launched the fourth-generation Swift in May 2024 with a brand new petrol engine – a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z-series unit that offers a claimed mileage of 25.75kmpl with the AMT and 24.8kmpl with the manual transmission
  • The Swift achieved 3 million cumulative sales milestone in India and 6.5 million sales milestone worldwide in June 2024

The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift is priced from Rs. 6.49 lakh to Rs. 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom). It rivals other hatchbacks such as the Tata Tiago and Tiago NRG, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, and Maruti Nexa Ignis. The prices of the mid and higher variants of the Swift overlap with the base and mid variants of the Maruti Nexa Baleno, Tata Altroz and Hyundai i20 as well.
