While the current-gen Innova Crysta is based on a ladder-on-frame platform, sources say the new Innova Hycross will use a new monocoque construction. The new monocoque chassis is likely to reduce the weight while utilising a front-wheel-drive setup. Sources suggest that the Innova Hycross will use the TNGA-C platform that underpins the new-gen Toyota Corolla. Hence, with the Innova Hycross, we can expect Toyota to offer multiple seating configurations with better space management.

In terms of powertrain, the new Innova Hycross could use a petrol-hybrid powertrain. We do not expect the Innova Hycross to be offered with any diesel engines. While details about the hybrid powertrain of the Innova Hycross are scarce, it may offer more power and torque than the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and use a 2.0L hybrid powertrain. It is worth noting that Toyota have stopped accepting orders for the Innova Crysta owing to high demand. It will be interesting to see if Toyota are successful in shifting potential buyers of the Innova Crysta diesel to the advanced hybrid powertrain of the new Innova Hycross.
