Toyota have manufactured and sold the Prius since 1997. It gained more popularity in recent times because of its hybrid powertrain, leading to better fuel efficiency figures. The Prius was introduced in the Indian market for a brief period, when petrol prices weren’t very high and there was negligible demand for hybrid cars.

However, looking at the present scenario, if Toyota were to relaunch the Prius in India, it would definitely come with its hybrid powertrain and the following engine specifications, as seen in the US-spec model.

The Toyota Prius is a D-segment sedan and will compete with cars like the Kia EV6, Volvo S90 and Lexus NX.

Toyota Prius Launch Timeline

Toyota recently introduced some hybrid vehicles in India, such as Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Innova Hycross and Vellfire. The Prius, although an excellent hybrid, has less chances to feature in India. This is because the Prius is a full sized hybrid sedan, which puts it in a very niche market in India. However, depending on how the hybrid car market picks up, Toyota might launch the Prius in India in the near future.

Toyota Prius Expected Price

If Toyota launch the Prius in India, it will be placed above the Toyota Camry in terms of features and price. The Camry is priced at Rs. 45.25 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). So, accordingly, the Prius is likely to be priced between Rs. 50.0 lakh to Rs. 70.0 lakh. This is also because most of its rivals like the Volvo S90 and Kia EV6 fall in a similar price bracket.
