Why Are Hyundai Focusing On Flex-Fuel Technology?

At the Auto Expo 2025, several leading carmakers including Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai, showcased flex fuel vehicles of various shapes and sizes. The largest of them all, the Creta Flex Fuel, is not yet confirmed for launch in India. However, its presence at the expo underscores the company’s focus on developing and showcasing flex-fuel technology. This demonstration complements the recent launch of the all-electric Creta, showcasing Hyundai’s multi-pronged approach to powertrain diversification.

If Hyundai were to launch the Creta Flex Fuel in India, we expect it to replace the Creta’s 1.5L normal petrol engine option. The Creta Flex Fuel’s 1.0L engine not only produces 5PS more than the 1.5L normal petrol engine but also offers 28Nm more torque as well. Additionally, since the 1.0L flex fuel engine is based on the already existing 1.0L turbo petrol engine that powers the Venue and i20, this engine could easily find its way under the bonnet of the Creta, albeit with modifications to run on up to E100 fuel.
