Upcoming Maruti Suzuki, Toyota Electric, Hybrid Cars And SUVS In 2025

Take a look at all the electric and hybrid cars Maruti and Toyota are set to add to this list below.

1. e Vitara & Urban Cruiser EV

Maruti Suzuki showcased pre-production versions of the e Vitara the recently held 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, while Toyota used the opportunity to reveal the Urban Cruiser EV. Both SUVs share the same Heartect-e EV platform, battery pack options and drivetrain.

The upcoming e Vitara and the Urban Cruiser EV will get 2 powertrain options for the Indian market. The lower variants of both SUVs will come equipped with a 49kWh battery pack and a front-mounted electric motor producing 144PS of power and 192.5Nm of torque. The higher variants, on the other hand, will get a 61kWh battery pack. The electric motor in these variants put out 174PS of power and 192.5Nm of torque.

The e Vitara and Urban Cruiser EV will offer safety features such as ADAS, 7 airbags and all wheel disc brakes as standard. Comfort and convenience features include ventilated front seats, a sunroof, dual 12.3-inch screens, 7-speaker Haraman sound system, sliding and reclining rear seats and more. 2. Grand Vitara 7-Seater & Urban Cruiser Hyryder 7-Seater

The Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder born out of the Maruti Suzuki-Toyota partnership are 2 popular C1-segment SUVs that rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, among others. The 2 carmakers are now aiming to target the C2 7-seater segment by launching extended versions of both SUVs featuring seating for 7 passengers.

The Grand Vitara 7-seater was spotted testing in the country recently with styling inspired by the upcoming e Vitara electric SUV. We expect the Maruti 7-seater SUV to go on sale ahead of Toyota’s version. When launched, the Grand Vitara 7-seater and Hyryder 7-seater will take on the Hyundai Alacazar, Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV700. We expect both SUVs to be powered by the same 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol, strong hybrid petrol and CNG engines as their 5-seater counterparts.

3. Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid & Urban Cruiser Taisor Hybrid

Maruti Suzuki were recently spied testing the Fronx with a ‘hybrid’ badge on tailgate, leading to speculation that the carmaker could give the sub-4 metre SUV yet another powertrain option apart from the 1.2L normal petrol, 1.2L CNG and 1.0L turbo petrol engine options.

The Fronx Hybrid is likely to be powered by the Swift’s 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine working in tandem with an electric motor. This hybrid system is expected to use the engine as a range extender where the petrol engine works as a generator to recharge the battery back, while an electric motor sends power to the front wheels. This setup is expected to make its way into the Swift and Dzire at a later stage.

4. Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid

Last but not least, we could expect Toyota to launch the Fortuner MHEV in India later this year. The 2025 Fortuner MHEV is currently on sale in select global markets, where it is powered by the familiar 2.8L diesel engine mated to a 48-volt mild hybrid system to improve fuel efficiency and lower emissions. While Toyota are yet to confirm this model for the Indian market, we expect it to go on sale this year in a bid to comply with ever-tightening CAFE norms in the country.
