Next Hyundai EV To Rival Cuvv EV, MG ZS, BYD Atto 3; Expect To See It At Auto Expo 2025 | V3Cars

We have been seeing photos of Creta-based EV for a good while now and recently, they have started to pop up more and more frequently. This leads us to believe that the Creta EV will launch in 2025.

Hyundai Creta EV

Hyundai have had a good amount of experience selling and maintaining electric cars in India as they had the Kona EV in their portfolio for a long time. Then, for the more upmarket buyers, they brought in the Ioniq 5. However, the Kona EV is the most relevant car here as the Creta EV will fill that void created after the Kona EV went out of production.

The Creta EV and Kona EV are also somewhat similar in one regard. The Kona EV we got here wasn’t made on a skateboard platform, which is specifically designed for electric cars. It was a petrol-car based platform modified to accommodate an EV powertrain and battery pack. Surprisingly, it worked quite well in Indian conditions and the customers seem to be happy with their Konas. All of those learnings will surely help Hyundai make an EV on the localised petrol-Creta-based platform instead of borrowing an international platform and paying high import duties.

Moreover, there is sort of a war going on in the EV space, where Chinese cars such as the MG Windsor, BYD Atto3 are moving forward aggressively with lucrative price tags. Hence, this time around, we can expect the 2025 Creta EV to carry a more aggressive price tag. Heavy localisation will help them achieve this goal.

2025 Creta EV Launch Timeline

With the Auto Expo/Bharat Mobility Expo just around the corner, we can expect Hyundai to showcase their Creta EV at the auto show. Traditionally, Hyundai have also used the platform to announce the prices of their new cars. At the 2020 Expo, they launched the Creta and at the 2023 Expo, they revealed the prices of the Ioniq 5.

We can expect that at the 2025 Expo, we will get the full launch and price announcement of the Creta EV 2025.

Moreover, Kia are also likely to bring their EV on the same platform. Since Kia recently launched 2 new cars (Carnival, EV9), we expect some break in their launch calendar for a good while. On the other hand, Hyundai’s recent important launches include the Creta facelift in early 2024 and the Alcazar facelift in early September 2024. An early 2025 launch of the Creta EV, possibly in January 2025, leaves enough space between launches for Hyundai as well as Kia.
