While the test mule is covered with heavy camouflage, we can make out a few details. Firstly, we can see a split headlight design with a slim LED DRL sitting atop and the headlights on the bumper. The main grille is sleek whereas the air intake is taken care of by the large radiator grille lower in the bumper.

At the side, we can see a 5-spoke alloy wheel design, which could be offered on the lower variants. The test car also confirms the presence of a 360-degree parking camera system. Other features could include an electric sunroof, ventilated seats, regenerative braking, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, telematics and six airbags.

We expect Maruti Suzuki to offer two engine options with the upcoming compact SUV. The base engine could be the 1.5L normal petrol engine, producing 103PS of power and 136Nm of torque. The highlight would be a strong hybrid powertrain with a petrol engine and electric motor(s). The hybrid system is likely to be a cost-effective incarnation of the one found in the Toyota Camry. The same powertrain will be offered with Toyota’s D22 compact SUV as well.

Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming compact SUV will go up against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor. However, the strong hybrid powertrain will be exclusive in the segment and won’t have any direct rivals. We expect both the Maruti and Toyota compact SUVs to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency.
