Honda’s C-SUV Launch In India In H1 2023 | V3Cars

Honda recently launched the City Hybrid at Rs. 19.50 lakh, which boasts high fuel efficiency and new-gen tech such as ADAS. It has attracted a lot of customers, and hence, commands a waiting period of 6 months. However, the flavour of the season is SUV, which Honda lacks. Their sole SUV/crossover in India is the WR-V, which is unable to give competition to other sub-4 metre SUVs.

But Honda are now going to tackle this problem with their first tailored-for-India SUV, which could launch in the first half of 2023. This new SUV will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and likely use the City’s platform, engine options and transmission.

Honda are constantly losing their share in the Indian car market. Due to low sales, they even had to shut down their plant in Noida. This led people to believe that the Japanese carmaker would soon exit our market as General Motors and Ford did. Although Honda later released their statement about their commitment to India and marked their exit as a false rumour, it is evident that they are struggling in the Indian market. The new SUV could bring high sales numbers and become a boon for them.

The C-SUV segment is heated up with several new entrants like the MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. Maruti and Toyota are also going to launch their new SUVs with strong hybrid setups later this year to compete in this segment. The upcoming new Honda SUV will also target the customers of this segment.

The new Honda SUV could feature the design highlights of the newly-launched HR-V. We can expect features like ADAS, a big touchscreen infotainment system, a 360-degree parking camera setup, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and powered front seats, connected car technology etc.

As we stated earlier, the new Honda SUV will likely use the City’s engine and transmissions. So, we can expect the new SUV to get a 1.5L normal petrol engine, a 1.5L diesel engine and a 1.5L strong-hybrid petrol engine. The petrol engine in the City gets the options of a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The diesel gets a 6-speed manual whereas the petrol-hybrid variant features a single-speed e-CVT automatic transmission.

The new SUV will launch in the first half of next year. It will rival the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Maruti S-Cross, Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks. No more details of the car are available as of now. Stay tuned for more updates.
