Maruti Suzuki Aim To Capture 50% Market Share With Safer Cars

Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of Maruti Suzuki, recently stated their goal to reclaim 50% market share in the Indian automobile industry. In a bid to achieve this goal, Maruti Suzuki have shifted their focus on making their cars safer. Three recent decisions are prime examples of Maruti Suzuki changing their strategy. The first was launching the new-gen Dzire and sending it to Global NCAP, where the sedan scored a full 5-star safety rating.

The second and third instances are the introduction of 6 airbags and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers in the Celerio and Brezza, respectively.

Ahead of the launch of the e Vitara electric SUV in March 2025, Maruti Suzuki have released footage of the SUV undergoing crash tests. The footage showcases the e Vitara’s stable chassis and body shell in the front and side impact tests, raising hopes that the e Vitara could become the next Maruti Suzuki car to score a 5-star safety rating.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Safety Features

The upcoming e Vitara, which was showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo recently, offers several safety features including:

  • ADAS
  • 7 airbags (including  knee airbag) 
  • ABS with EBD
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Disc brakes on all wheels 
  • Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
  • Electronic stability program (ESP)
  • 360-degree surround view camera
  • Front and rear parking sensors

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara Launch Timeline

Maruti Suzuki will launch the 2025 e Vitara electric SUV in March 2025. However, the exact date is yet to be confirmed. Maruti will offer the e Vitara with 2 battery pack options – 49kWh and 61kWh – with the latter expected to offer over 550km of range. Prices are likely to range between Rs. 20 lakh and Rs. 30 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the e Vitara will compete with other C-segment electric SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv and the Mahindra BE 6.
