Skoda To Reintroduce Diesel Engine With Launch Of New-Gen Octavia | V3Cars
Earlier this year, we reported that Skoda could bring back their diesel engine to India with the all-new Superb if there was enough demand for it. Now, a new report suggests Skoda will indeed reintroduce their diesel engine in India, albeit not as expected.

Diesel Skoda Cars Set To Make A Return
Skoda showcased the new-generation Superb at the Auto Expo in January 2025. We were surprised to find that the Superb showcased at the Auto Expo featured a diesel engine, which Skoda India discontinued in March 2021. However, at the event, Skoda officials told V3Cars that the new Superb will go on sale with a petrol engine initially before adding that the 2L diesel engine could return if there’s enough demand for it.

Now, Skoda’s brand director, Petr Janeba, has confirmed via a new report that Skoda are set to bring back the diesel engine option with the new-gen Octavia, which is slated to launch ahead of the 2025 festive season.
Skoda Octavia To Launch Ahead Of 2025 Festive Season
According to the report, Skoda will launch the new-gen Octavia diesel ahead of the 2025 festive season. The new Octavia diesel will be brought from the UK to India via the CBU route under the Indian government’s GSR 870 rule that allows a manufacturer to import up to 2500 units of passenger vehicles without the need for homologation.
The Octavia diesel features the same 2L diesel engine we saw in the new-gen Superb at the Auto Expo. This diesel engine produces 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque. For India, Skoda plan to offer this engine with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) only.
The return of the diesel engine is expected to significantly boost Skoda India’s sales. Despite the brand discontinuing diesel in 2021 due to stringent emission norms, diesel vehicles remain a substantial part of the market for competitors like Hyundai, Kia, Tata, Mahindra, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW. Prior to the 2021 discontinuation, nearly 80% of Skoda’s Indian sales were diesel models. The absence of diesel options since then has impacted sales of flagship models like the Superb and Kodiaq.
