Maruti Suzuki 3-Row SUV Launch Timeline

Maruti Suzuki have announced their foray into the premium 3-row vehicle segment with the launch of a new Toyota-based offering. We expect the new 3-row model to be a rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. The carmaker has confirmed that its launch will take place in the next two months. Hence, it’s safe to assume that Maruti Suzuki will launch the 3-row SUV by July 2023.

While the carmaker hasn’t specified the bodystyle their new 3-row model will carry, we expect Maruti Suzuki to call it an SUV. Since Maruti Suzuki confirmed that the 3-row model will be sourced from Toyota, the Innova Hycross is the only viable candidate to wear the Suzuki emblem. The Innova Hycross already offers an SUV-inspired design and even though Toyota call it an MPV with SUV design, Maruti Suzuki may not shun away from calling it an SUV. Furthermore, a past leak from Maruti Suzuki’s internal meeting also revealed a 3-row premium SUV under development. 

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota already share a couple of products in the Indian market as part of their global collaboration. Earlier, Maruti Suzuki shared its Vitara Brezza with Toyota, where it was rebadged and sold as the Urban Cruiser. Currently, Toyota manufacture the Grand Vitara SUV for Maruti Suzuki and also supply their strong hybrid powertrain for the C-segment SUV. Maruti Suzuki, on the other hand, manufacture the rebadged version of the Baleno hatchback for Toyota, called the Glanza. The rebadged Innova Hycross could be the 4th shared model between the two Japanese giants in the Indian market. Needless to say, both brands also share other models in their global lineups.

Maruti Suzuki 3-Row SUV Expected Powertrain Details

Since the upcoming 3-row SUV from Maruti Suzuki will be sourced from Toyota, it is likely to carry the same powertrain options as the Toyota Innova Hycross. Toyota offer the Innova Hycross with a choice of 2 engine options — 2.0L normal petrol and 2.0L strong hybrid petrol.

The upcoming Maruti Suzuki 3-row SUV will rival other D2-segment SUVs and MPVs like the Toyota Fortuner, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Kia Carnival and of course, the Toyota Innova Hycross.
