Mahindra XUV.e8 And XUV.e9 Spotted Charging With Slight Design Differences | V3Cars

The Mahindra XUV.e8 and XUV.e9, which are the electric SUV and coupe-SUV derivatives of the XUV700, was spied charging at a mall parking lot recently. The latest spy shots give us a glimpse of the XUV.e9 coupe-SUV’s charging port and also reveals a few design changes over the test mules that were spotted earlier in the year.

Mahindra XUV.e9 To Get Rear-Mounted Charging Port

As seen in the spy shots, the charging port on the Mahindra XUV.e9 is sandwiched between the upper and left side LED tail lamps and its notchback tailgate. In comparison, the XUV.e8 is expected to come with a charging port on the side. A front or rear-mounted charging port is a convenient feature as one only has to drive up to or back into the allotted charging space in the parking lot. A side-mounted charging port, like in the Citroen eC3, limits ones options in terms of parking the vehicle.

Mahindra XUV.e9 Design And Specifications

While covered in camouflage, we can confirm the production-spec XUV.e9 will feature a enclosed front grille with sleek, full-with LED DRLs with vertical elements on either side to create a fang shape. The headlamps are enclosed in a triangular housing and feature LED projector units. The spy shots also reveal the XUV.e9’s aero-optimised alloy wheels, coupe-like roofline, flush-fitting door handles and beefy side cladding. The major difference between the previous test mules of the XUV.e9 and the one spotted charging is the design of the taillamps and tailgate. While the earlier test mules had an inverter U-shaped LED taillamp with a connecting element at the centre, the latest test mule features thinner LED taillamps with both the vertical and connected sections as before in addition to a new horizontal section lower down the bumper. The bottom of the tailgate is no longer straight as it now sports an angular look to reduce the visual bulk at the rear. Check out the interiors of the XUV.e9 by clicking the link below:

The XUV.e9 is likely to feature a dual-motor setup, giving it all-wheel-drive capabilities. With an expected output of 300PS, the electric coupe SUV is likely to offer a top speed of 200kmph.  Mahindra have revealed that the INGLO platform can accommodate 60kWh - 80kWH battery packs. Hence, we could expect the production-spec SUV.e9 to offer a range of over 500km per charge. In terms of dimensions, the XUV.e9 will measure 4790mm in length, 1905mm in width, 1690mm in height and have a wheelbase of 2775mm. When launched in 2025, we expect the Mahindra XUV.e9 to rival the upcoming Tata Harrier EV and Hyundai Creta EV.

Mahindra XUV.e8 To Get 3 Screens Inside!

The XUV.e8 is expected to launch sooner than the XUV.e9, and we expect it to go on sale in December 2024. The XUV.e8 shares most of its body panels with the XUV700 save for the front end. At the front, the XUV.e8 gets the same full-width LED DRLs and triangular LED headlamp housing as the XUV.e9. The side profile is expected to look identical to the XUV700 save for the aero-optimised alloy wheels in the EV. The rear, too, will share the body panels and LED taillamps with the XUV700.

Recently, a few design patents of the XUV.e8 were leaked online. It revealed features like a dashboard equipped with 3 screens – a digital driver’s display, a touchscreen infotainment system, and a third screen dedicated to the front co-passenger. All 3 screens are likely to measure 10.25-inches in size. Other differences over the XUV700 include a flat-bottom 2-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo like the ones seen on the Tata Nexon 2024.

We expect the XUV700 to offer at least 2 battery pack options to offer customers a wide range of choice based on their budget. The XUV.e8 could also come with rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations at different price points. Expect both the XUV.e9 and XUV.e8 to support DC fast charging up to 175kW.
