Hyundai India Confirm Ioniq 5 Launch — Local Assembly Likely | V3Cars
Hyundai India have confirmed the launch of the Ioniq 5 electric crossover SUV. The Ioniq 5 is the first product to be marketed under Hyundai’s Ioniq electric vehicle sub-brand. The all-electric crossover SUV from Hyundai sits on the company’s e-GMP platform, also known as Electric Global Modular Platform. While the launch has been confirmed, Hyundai are yet to reveal the battery and powertrain specifications of the India-bound Ioniq 5.
Hyundai are testing the Ioniq 5 on our roads extensively and have now confirmed that the Ioniq 5 will feature 350kW DC fast charging capability that can charge its batteries from 0-80% in just 18 minutes.

Hyundai’s e-GMP platform was developed on 4 key pillars:
- Modularity
- Performance
- Reliability
- Usability
The e-GMP platform is capable of hosting different body sizes and body styles. With the Ioniq 5, Hyundai offer the option of 2 battery sizes — 58kWh and 77kWh. While Hyundai have not confirmed the battery pack specifications for India, the release confirms that Hyundai will offer the rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 5 initially. Globally, Hyundai offer the Ioniq 5 with both rear- and all-wheel-drive options.
With the 77.4kWh battery pack, the Ioniq 5 offers 228PS (2WD) and 325PS (4WD). The top speed of all the Ioniq 5 variants is capped at 185kmph. The 325PS AWD variant of the Ioniq can do the 0-100kmph sprint in just 5.1 seconds. The rear-wheel-drive variants offer a maximum range of 507km whereas all-wheel-drive variant offers 481km on a single charge.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is likely to make its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo and go on sale soon after. As we expect Hyundai to locally assemble the Ioniq 5, it could be priced a lot cheaper over its cousin — the Kia EV6 – which is sold via the CBU route. Kia India offer the EV6 in 2 options — 2WD at Rs. 59.99 lakh and 4WD at Rs. 64.99 lakh. We won’t be surprised if Hyundai manage to price the Ioniq 5 below the Rs. 50 lakh price mark.
