Honda City e:HEV Hybrid Launched At Rs. 19.50 Lakh | V3Cars
Honda Cars India have launched the City e:HEV hybrid at Rs. 19.50 Lakh. The bookings and test drives for the City e:HEV hybrid are currently open at Honda dealerships. The Honda City e:HEV comes with a strong hybrid setup, a first in the segment. Thanks to the efficient powertrain, Honda says the City e:HEV has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.5kmpl.
The Honda City e:HEV comes with a self-charging hybrid setup. The 1.5L petrol engine in the City e:HEV is coupled to two electric motors. One motor acts as a starter-generator and channels power from the engine to charge the battery whereas the other motor, called the traction motor, powers the wheels. Under most conditions, the electric motor channels power to the wheels. However, the clutch is engaged to channel power from the engine when needed.

Speaking of performance, the City e:HEV hybrid has a combined power output of 126PS. The electric motor offers a peak torque of 253Nm between 0-3000rpm. The top speed of the City Hybrid sedan is limited to 176kmph. It is interesting to note that the thermal efficiency of the e:HEV powertrain is 40-45% better than the rivals.
Honda City e:HEV hybrid also gets Honda Sensing, which is Honda speak for autonomous driving assistance systems or ADAS. Honda Sensing features on the City hybrid include:
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM)
- Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS)
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Auto High Beam

In terms of design updates, Honda have given the City e:HEV a few differentiating factors to make it stand apart from the regular City. The changes include blue surrounds for the Honda logo, front grille, fog lamp garnish, rear diffuser and boot lip spoiler, as well as ‘e:HEV’ badging. However, the City e:HEV misses out on the sporty RS body kit, which is seen on the Thai-spec City e:HEV.
In addition to the features that are available in the standard Honda City, the City e:HEV also gets ambient lighting, electric parking brake with auto hold, multi-level regenerative braking, all-four disc brakes, walk-away auto lock, remote engine start and AC control. In addition to that, Honda have also improved their Honda Connect connected car technology with newly added smartwatch features.

Honda will offer a 3-year unlimited kilometre warranty along with an 8-year limited warranty for the lithium-ion battery pack. The City e:HEV will not have any direct rivals for now. However, the standard petrol and diesel-powered Honda City rival the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Skoda Slavia and the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus.
