2024 MG Windsor EV (Electric Crossover) Expected Price — With Logic | V3Cars

In this article, we’ll estimate the variant-wise ex-showroom price of the upcoming Windsor EV — MG’s upcoming crossover electric vehicle to rival electric cars like the Mahindra XUV400, Tata Punch EV, Nexon EV and Curvv EV. We’ll explain the logic behind the calculations along with the reasons to support our conclusions in the Windsor expected price table. As and when we get more information affecting our estimations about the MG Windsor price, we’ll update this article to accommodate new findings.

Tata — A History Of Overpricing

You might wonder why we are talking about Tata Motors. With the Nexon 2023, Safari facelift, Harrier facelift and probably a few other cars Tata have mostly proved us wrong by pricing their cars much higher than our expectations.

With the Curvv too, Tata’s pricing was considerably off our expectations, but this time, it was a pleasant surprise as they considerably undercut our expected prices. That’s despite our assumption that Tata might price the Curvv to match the segment standards. That means, we weren’t expecting them to overprice the Curvv like they did with the Nexon, Safari and Harrier. Yet, they managed to undercut us by about Rs. 1.0 lakh across the board.

MG — A History Of Well Priced Cars

Unlike Tata, MG have always offered fantastic feature distribution, especially in their lower variants. They have also priced their cars aggressively regardless of what the competition is doing. While Tata are pricing their cars aggressively (hint: Curvv), we can’t expect MG to just play by their usual rules. So, we should expect them to go toe to toe and challenge them on the EV front. It’s worth noting that MG were the ones to reduce the prices of their Comet first, which prompted Tata to revise the prices of the Tiago EV soon after.

MG Windsor Variants

The MG Windsor EV will come in 3 variants: Excite, Exclusive and Essence. Since Tata’s Punch EV is doing fairly well while the Nexon EV is doing (probably) okay, we expect MG to take the fight to these 2 cars with their bigger Windsor EV crossover. The Windsor is much bigger than the Punch EV and even the Nexon EV.

The fact that MG aren’t offering ADAS features and powered tailgate with the Windsor also suggests to us that MG aren’t targeting Curvv with this car and they want to fill the gap between the Comet and the MG ZS. To a Punch EV and Nexon EV buyer, the Windsor should come across as a deal worth considering as it will offer a bigger car and a few extra features including a full glass roof. Although, in terms of exterior styling, it doesn’t have the SUV-like side profile comparable to that of the Punch or Nexon.

MG Windsor 2024 — Expected Price Summary

We expect MG to either price the Windsor EV base model at Rs. 11.99 lakh or Rs. 12.99 lakh. Either way, the best estimate we can offer to minimise deviation from the final result is to stay in the middle. That means an expected starting price of Rs. 12.50 lakh.

From there, we expect the mid Exclusive variant to cost about Rs. 1.50 lakh more and carry an ex-showroom price of Rs. 14.0 lakh. When even the Comet’s mid variant carries a premium of about Rs. 1.0 lakh, then Rs. 1.50 lakh price jump from base to mid should be standard affair for the Windsor.

Finally, the top-spec Essence variant should cost another Rs. 1.50 lakh more and carry an ex-showroom price of Rs. 15.50 lakh. Should MG price the base variant Rs. 50,000 higher or lower, you can expect the other variants to also have similar deviation in their final price.

This price range will leave enough room for the Comet as well as the ZS EV while perfectly filling the white space between the two. It will also suitably challenge the Punch EV and Nexon EV while the ZS continues to tackle the Curvv EV and the Comet competes with the Tiago EV.

They're going to call it 38kWh but 50 is not happening initially. i hope they price it aggressively so that you end up getting a good deal.---Mahesh

This is well off the mark.. I believe it should start at 16-17 and topping at 20 - 21. I expect only 38 KWh battery to be launched in Indian. I didn't see any logic in the pricing that you have been claiming. To have a price comparison we need to compare the features/specs offered by zs/comet and what they are selling at. Not by expecting something to fill the gap.

So far, we have either been very close (sometimes, spot on), or off by an inexcusably huge margin. E.g. Nissan X-Trail, we expected to go on sale around Rs. 30L and we were off by 67%. Only time will tell how this estimation turns out and there's not much left---Mahesh
