Maruti Dzire 2024 Scores 5-Star GNCAP Safety Rating – First Maruti Suzuki To Do So | V3Cars

The new Maruti Dzire 2024 has scored a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP just days ahead of its launch on November 11. With a 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star safety rating for child occupant protection, the 2024 Dzire is the first car from Maruti Suzuki to achieve a 5-star rating from Global NCAP. Check out how the new Maruti sedan performed in the latest crash test below.

2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire Scores 5-Star Safety Rating

2024 Maruti Dzire Adult Occupant Protection Test

The new Dzire 2024, which was submitted by Maruti Suzuki to Global NCAP for voluntary testing, achieved a score of 31.24 out of a maximum 34 in the adult occupant protection test. Global NCAP’s report indicated strong head and neck protection for both driver and front passenger. However, chest protection varied, with marginal protection for the driver and adequate protection for the passenger. Knee protection was rated as good for both occupants. Importantly, both the vehicle’s structure and footwell area were deemed stable, with the former demonstrating the capacity to withstand further impact.

The Dzire also underwent a side impact test, where it exhibited good protection for the head, chest, abdomen, and pelvis. In the side pole impact test, protection for the head, abdomen, and pelvis was rated as good, while chest protection was deemed marginal. Additionally, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system met Global NCAP standards.

2024 Maruti Dzire Child Occupant Protection Test

In the child occupant protection test, the 2024 Dzire achieved a commendable score of 39.20 out of 42 points in child occupant protection.

For the 3-year-old, the forward-facing ISOFIX-installed child restraint system (CRS) effectively prevented excessive forward movement during a frontal impact, ensuring full head and chest protection but providing limited neck protection.

4-Star Child Rating

The rearward-facing ISOFIX-installed CRS for the 18-month-old successfully shielded the head from exposure during a frontal impact, offering full protection. Both CRSs demonstrated full protection in the crash test. Furthermore, the CRS installation process was successful in all configurations.

However, the Dzire’s inability to deactivate the front passenger airbag when a rearward-facing CRS is installed in that seat resulted in a slight deduction in points.

New Maruti Suzuki Dzire Mileage Revealed Ahead Of Launch

To set some context about the improvements in terms of safety in the new model, Global NCAP tested the 3rd generation of the Dzire. The soon-to-be-discontinued model scored a 2-star rating for both adult and chile occupant protection. The outgoing Dzire only offers 2 airbags while the new model offers 6 airbags and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers as standard.

The structure and footwell area of the outgoing model were rated as unstable. The side impact test showed weak protection to the dummy chest and the pole test was not performed as this model does not offer side head protection, even as an option.

Both child dummy occupants were seated in a rearward facing CRS. Both used ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. Child dummy head contact with the interior of the car and the lack of 3-point seatbelts in all seating positions explain the low child occupant rating.

Global NCAP’s Statement On New Dzire 2024

In Global NCAP’s official statement, David Ward, the Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said:

The new Dzire’s five star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result.

We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.
