19 Features New Mahindra Thar Roxx Gets Over Thar 3-Door | V3Cars
Mahindra launched the 2024 Thar Roxx at a starting price of Rs. 12.99 lakh (ex-showroom) on August 15. The brand has so far only revealed the prices of the Thar Roxx rear wheel drive variants. Mahindra will reveal the prices of the Thar Roxx 4x4 variants when bookings commence on October 3, 2024.
We now have full access to the Thar Roxx brochure. So let’s compare the feature differences between the new Thar Roxx and the Thar 3 Door to help you make an informed decision on which SUV best suits your needs. Apart from the obvious differences like the additional doors, added length and the different grille designs, we’ll take a deep dive into the 22 features the Mahindra Thar Roxx offers over the Thar 3 Door. Let’s begin:
1. Metal Hard Top
All variants of the new Thar Roxx come with a metal hard top. In comparison, the Thar 3 Door offers the option of a convertible soft top or a FRP hardtop. Metal hard tops are more durable than FRP hard tops and they can even withstand harsh off-road conditions and potential impacts. They also offer better noise insulation, making the cabin quieter on highway drives. Finally, a metal hard top can easily be modified to add accessories like roof rack or auxiliary lights.

2. ADAS
Another feature missing in the Thar 3 Door is advanced driver assistance systems, or ADAS. The Thar Roxx offers Level-2 ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop & go, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, high beam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

3. 6 Airbags
The Thar Roxx offers 6 airbags as standard while the Thar 3 Door only gets a driver and front passenger airbag. 6 airbags reduce the risk of injury. The side impact and curtain airbags protect the heads and torsos of occupants in side-impact collisions.
4. LED Lighting
The 2024 Thar Roxx offers LED projector headlamps in all variants whereas the Thar 3 Door comes with halogen reflector headlamps only. Additionally, the mid and top variants of the Thar Roxx offer LED projector fog lamps and C-shaped LED DRLs (daytime running lamps) while the Thar 3 Door offers halogen fog lamps only. Both SUVs get LED tail lamps. However, the Thar Roxx gets a new C-shaped lighting signature compared to the Thar 3 Door’s rectangular signature.

5. 19-Inch Alloy Wheels
The Thar Roxx offers 18-inch steel wheels in the base and mid MX1, MX3 and AX3L variants. The MX5 and AX5L variants offer 18-inch alloy wheels, while the top AX7L variants comes with 19-inch alloy wheels. In comparison, the base AX Opt variant of the Thar 3 Door comes with 16-inch steel wheels while the top LX variant gets 18-inch alloy wheels.
6. Sunroof
The MX5 and AX5L variants of the Thar Roxx get a single-pane sunroof while the top AX7L variants gets a panoramic sunroof. In comparison, the Thar 3 Door does not feature a sunroof at all. However, it comes with the option of a convertible soft top, which the Thar Roxx lacks.

7. Dual-Tone Black And White Interior
While the Thar 3 Door gets an all-black cabin, Mahindra offer the Thar Roxx with a dual-tone black-and-white cabin. The upper portion of the Thar Roxx’s interior is covered in black while the seats and lower half of the dashboard and door pads are finished in white. Personally, I prefer an all-black cabin, especially considering the Thar Roxx is an off-road oriented SUV and the white seat upholstery is prone to get dirty and stained faster.
Additionally, the Thar Roxx also offers a soft-touch upper dashboard over the hard plastic dashboard in the Thar 3 Door.

8. Ventilated Front Seats
The top AX7L variant of the Thar Roxx offers front ventilated seats while the Thar 3 Door does not offer this feature in any variants. Learn more about the pros and cons of this feature by clicking the link below.

9. 10.25-Inch Touchscreen Infotainment System
Mahindra offer all variants of the Thar Roxx with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. All variants apart from the base MX1 get an high-definition (HD) panel as well. In comparison, the Thar 3 Door offers a 7.0-inch touchscreen, which is only offered in the top LX variant. The Thar Roxx even offers wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay over the wired connection required in the Thar 3 Door.

10. 10.25-Inch Digital Driver’s Display
The Thar Roxx offers a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display in the AX3L, AX5L and AX7L variants while the MX variants come with an analogue instrument cluster with a multi-info display (MID). The Thar 3 Door, on the other hand, offers an analogue instrument cluster with a monotone MID in the base AX Opt variant and a full-colour MID in the LX variant.
11. 360-Degree Surround View Camera
The top AX7L variant of the Thar Roxx offer a 360-degree surround view camera, which is a good feature to have considering the size of the 5-door Thar. The Thar 3-Door, on the other hand, does not offer any cameras. It only gets rear parking sensors.

12. Electronic Parking Brake With Auto Hold
The AX3L, AX5L and AX7L variants of the Mahindra Thar Roxx offer an electronic parking brake with auto hold feature, which is a missing feature in the Thar 3 Door. An electronic parking brake offers ease of use as it can be activated and deactivated with a simple button press, eliminating the need for manual effort. The auto-hold feature automatically engages the parking brake when the vehicle comes to a stop, preventing it from rolling away on inclines without the driver's intervention.
Other features the Thar Roxx offers over the Thar 3 Door are:
16. Wireless phone charger
18. Rear USB-C charging sockets
