2023 Toyota Innova Spied Testing In India | V3Cars

A few weeks ago, the next generation of the Toyota Innova was spied testing in Thailand. Now, it has been caught testing in Chennai wearing camouflage. This suggests that Toyota could launch the new generation Innova MPV in India soon after its international launch later this year.

The spy shots and the video do not reveal much about the design of the next-gen Innova as most of it is under the wraps. However, we can still make out a few design elements of the car. From the rear, the only visible prominent change is the bumper. However, we can expect Toyota to give it a slightly tweaked set of taillights.

From the side, the overall silhouette of the MPV remains the same. The alloy wheels, however, are new and finished in charcoal grey colour. The most prominent changes lie at the front of the car, where we can see a new set of headlights. The entire fascia is more upright, with a new grille, bumper and a flatter bonnet. This should give the MPV a more aggressive stance. Overall, the MPV looks a lot similar to the Avanza sold overseas.

Rumours suggest that Toyota will replace the body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive IMV platform of the Innova with the monocoque, front-wheel-drive TNGA platform. However, it seems unlikely as the Innova Crysta is known for its robust body-on-frame construction. If the MPV gets a new platform, it could also lead to new powertrain options, including a petrol hybrid.

The current Innova Crysta uses a 2.7L normal petrol and a 2.4L diesel engine. The former produces 166PS of power and 245Nm of torque while the latter produces 150PS of power and 360Nm of torque. We can expect Toyota to launch the new-gen Innova in India next year with a bump in prices.
