20 Features Missing In Skoda Kylaq But Available In Rival SUV(s)

Skoda Auto India revealed the variant-wise prices and features of the 2024 Kylaq SUV on December 2, 2024. The new Kylaq 2024 is available in 4 variants – Classic, Signature, Signature Plus and Prestige – and offers several features that are commonly available in B2-SUVs. However, the Kylaq also lacks a few features that are available in rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Maruti Suzuki Brezza. In this article, we take a look at 20 features missing in the Skoda Kylaq but available in one or the other direct rival in the B2 SUV segment.

2024 Skoda Kylaq – 20 Missing Features

Let’s begin the list with features Skoda could have easily added to the 2024 Kylaq to offer better value for the customer:

1. Front Parking Sensors

While the 2024 Skoda Kylaq offers reverse parking sensors in all variants, it lacks front parking sensors. Front parking sensors are a valuable safety feature that significantly enhances your driving experience, especially in tight parking spaces. Front parking sensors can help prevent collisions with obstacles, such as walls, pillars, or other vehicles, particularly in low-visibility conditions or tight parking spots. They also help reduces stress, particularly for novice drivers, by providing real-time feedback.

If this is a must-have feature for you, then you may want to consider the 2024 Kia Sonet or the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Front parking sensors are available as an optional feature for the Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

2. Rear Disc Brakes

All variants of the 2024 Skoda Kylaq lack rear disc brakes. Rear disc brakes help provide consistent braking performance, especially in wet or dusty conditions.  They are also less prone to brake fade when compared to rear drum brakes, helping maintain stopping power under heavy braking.  Additionally, rear disc brakes offer shorter stopping distances, enhancing overall safety. Rear disc brakes are available in Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue N Line and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

3. Air Purifier

Considering the rising levels of air pollution in our major cities, in-car air purifiers are becoming a mainstream feature in most modern cars. However, the Skoda Kylaq does not offer this feature in any of its 4 variants. In comparison, the Hyundai Venue offers an air purifier with SX (O) petrol variants and SX (O) petrol and diesel variants. The Kia Sonet, too, offers an air purifier in the HTX Plus, GTX Plus and X-Line variants.

4. Rear Door Sunshade Curtains

The 2024 Skoda Kylaq does not offer sunshade curtains for the rear windows, which is a feature that is available in the Kia Sonet’s HTK and higher variants. Rear door sunshade curtains helps reduce heat by blocking direct sunlight. Additionally, they not only shield passengers from harmful UV rays but offer privacy as well.

5. Soft-Touch Dashboard

Like its elder sibling, the Kushaq, the new Kylaq does not offer a soft-touch dashboard. Not only the 3XO but also the newly-launched 2024 Magnite facelift offers this feature and it's much more affordable than the Kylaq.

6. Electronic Parking Brake

Here too, the Mahindra XUV 3XO is the only SUV in this segment to offer this feature. Apart from ease of use, an electronic parking brake does not add a whole lot of convenience over a manual handbrake.

 7. Head-Up Display

The Skoda Kylaq does not offer a head-up display in any of its variants. A head-up display offers enhanced convenience as it displays key driving data, such as speed, gear position and navigation instructions, at the driver’s eye line. The Maruti Brezza, Maruti Fronx and the Toyota Taisor are the only SUVs in this segment to offer an HUD in this segment.

8. Dual-Zone Climate Control

Dual-zone climate control is a feature that allows the driver and front passenger to independently set their preferred temperature zones. This means each occupant can control the temperature and fan speed for their side of the vehicle. None of the Skoda Kylaq variants offer this feature. However, if you think this feature can enhance your driving experience, you should consider the Mahindra XUV 3XO, which gets this feature from the AX5 variant onwards.

9. 360-Degree Camera

The Skoda Kylaq also lacks a 360-degree surround view camera. A 360-degree surround view camera system provides a bird’s-eye view of your vehicle and its surroundings, significantly enhancing safety and convenience. The higher variants of the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Tata Nexon and the Mahindra XUV 3XO are available with this feature.

10. Rear Parking Camera With Dynamic Guidelines

The lack of a rear parking camera with dynamic guidelines in the Skoda Kylaq is a glaring miss, in our opinion. Dynamic guidelines offer a significant advantage over static guidelines when it comes to rear parking cameras as they adjust in real-time as you turn the steering wheel, providing a more accurate visual representation of your car’s path. This makes it easier to manoeuvre in tight parking spaces and avoid obstacles.

SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Fronx, Taisor, Nexon, Sonet, Venue, Magnite and Kiger offer reverse parking camera with dynamic guidelines.

11. Panoramic Sunroof

Panoramic sunroofs have become a highly sought-after feature in the Indian automotive market. They note only create an illusion of a more spacious cabin but also add a premium touch to the car’s interior. The Skoda Kylaq does not offer a panoramic sunroof in any of its variants. However, it is available with a single-pane sunroof in its top Prestige variant. In comparison, the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon are available with panoramic sunroof.

Now, let’s take a look at some key safety features missing in the 2024 Skoda Kylaq:

12. Adaptive Cruise Control

The Skoda Kylaq 2024 does not offer any ADAS features. Hence, it lacks adaptive cruise control, which is available in the top variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Adaptive cruise control helps maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, reducing the risk of rear-end collisions. By automatically adjusting speed, it can also alleviate stress and fatigue during long drives.

 13. Forward Collision Warning

Forward collision warning is a safety feature designed to alert the driver of an impending collision with a vehicle or object ahead. This system uses sensors such as radar or cameras to monitor the road ahead and detect potential hazards. Forward collision warning and the following ADAS features on this list are available in the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue and the Mahindra XUV 3XO.

14. Auto Emergency Braking

Auto emergency braking (AEB) is a safety feature that can automatically apply the brakes to avoid a collision. AEB can not only help prevent low-speed collisions, can help reduce the severity of the impact if a collision is unavoidable by slowing the vehicle down.

15. Lane Keep Assist

Lane keep assist is yet another ADAS feature missing in the Skoda Kylaq. It gently nudges the vehicle back into its lane, preventing accidental lane drift.

16. Lane Following Assist

Lane following assist maintains the vehicle within its lane, reducing driver fatigue on highways.

17. High Beam Assist

This feature automatically switches between high and low beams, enhancing visibility without blinding oncoming traffic.

18. Driver Attention Warning

Driver attention warning or driver drowsiness detection detects signs of fatigue using a camera inside the cabin and alerts the driver to take a break.

19. Leading Vehicle Departure Warning Alert

This feature warns the driver if the vehicle ahead starts moving and the driver hasn’t reacted.

20. Blind Spot Monitor

Blind spot monitor alerts the driver of vehicles in the blind spot, reducing the risk of accidents during lane changes.
