In this 2022 MG ZS EV facelift exterior review, we’ll explain the ZS EV’s exterior in detail to help you decide if you should buy this electric SUV. We’ll comprehensively explain the details of the ZS EV’s front, rear, side and boot, and provide an overview of the ZS EV’s exterior design. Please note that we compiled this review after driving the car MG gave us for review.
The headlamp cluster of the 2022 ZS EV gets a single LED projector lamp for both low and high beams. Hence, the beam is entirely white. Arrow shaped DRLs are integrated with the headlamps with LED turn indicators above them. As the headlamps are similar to the Astor, it too gets 9 crystal elements which scatter the lights from the headlamps.
The front of the 2022 ZS EV gets a new bumper. The grille is now closed off and the panel has a honeycomb pattern on it. Below the MG logo is the front parking camera. The charging port, which was earlier placed inside the MG logo, is now placed on the left of it. There is also a provision for radar at the centre of the bumper, but unlike Astor, the 2022 ZS EV does not get ADAS features, and hence, doesn’t get those sensors. There is also chrome detailing and black cladding on the front bumper stretching towards the side.
The 2022 ZS EV gets 17-inch alloy wheels. However, they are covered with dual-tone plastic wheel covers to reduce drag and improve the range. Anyways, we like the design of the wheel covers. Other details on the side include electric badging on front fenders, shark-fin antenna, roof rails, chrome window line, chrome detailing on door handles, black side cladding and rear disc brakes. The ORVMs also have cameras under them for the 360-degree parking camera setup.
The rear of the 2022 ZS EV looks exactly like the Astor, save for the bumper and badging. The LED taillight cluster resembles the headlight cluster. It also gets LED turn indicators, a rear wiper and washer and a high mount stop lamp. The rear bumper houses one reflector on either side.
To open the boot, you need to flip the MG logo. Inside the boot, there is 470L of space. We think that the ZS EV’s boot should easily accommodate the luggage of 5 people. There is a 17-inch spare tyre under the boot, with some space to put a tyre inflator or puncture repair kit around it. There are 2 net pockets in the boot where one can keep the charging cable. You can expand the boot space by splitting the rear seats in 60:40 format. There is also a light in the boot for added convenience.
Overall, the 2022 ZS EV looks like a futuristic take on the old ZS EV. It looks more modern, mainly due to its closed grille. While one will need time to get used to the no-grille design, it clearly distinguishes itself from the more affordable, petrol version of the car, the Astor. Most of the people will not mistake the 2022 ZS EV for any ICE vehicle even at first glance.
From the side, it looks more like a crossover than a traditional SUV. It also looks smaller than most of the cars available at a similar price point. The rest of the 2022 ZS EV looks very similar to the Astor.
