Tata Motors Punch EV Slated For 2024 Launch (Tentative) | V3Cars
While speaking with MoneyControl, Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, said that the Punch EV is “definitely one of” the cars in Tata’s tentative product pipeline. He said that “by 2024, (Tata) should be able to bring that vehicle”. It’s unclear if he meant to say that it’ll go on sale before the end of 2023 or by the end of 2024. But the Punch EV has a strong place among the cards Tata hold right now.
Here’s the exact statement from Chandra when speaking about the Punch EV:
“There are a few more additional products, which might come. Punch EV is definitely one of them and I would not like to confirm a date on that. But yes, the intention would be that in the foreseeable future and say, by 2024, we should be able to bring that vehicle. But at this stage, I won't confirm the date till we have progressed to a stage that we can confirm the launch. So, yeah, those are the products I would say.”
Given that they have a few product launches planned already for 2023, it seems unlikely that the Punch EV could come in 2023. The Punch CNG is another high-priority car in the launch pipeline for Tata Motors. With the CNG powertrain update, Tata could wait a while before giving the Punch another powertrain update. So, 2024 seems like a more appropriate timeline for the Punch EV.

In 2023, Tata are also very likely to update the Nexon, Harrier and Safari. These are in addition to the Altroz CNG, Altroz Racer and Punch CNG. This will leave very little space on the calendar for the Punch EV in the 2023 calendar year.
Such timely updates for the Punch will help keep the product feeling fresh. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai, India’s top 2 carmakers are after a slice of Punch's market share as it has become a consistent top performer in Tata’s portfolio.
