Maruti Suzuki To Open EV Plant In Gujarat — First EV To Roll Out By 2025 | V3Cars

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gurajat government to set up an EV manufacturing plant in the state. Suzuki Motor Corporation, the parent company of MSIL, will invest Rs. 10,440 crore to set up the EV plant near their existing manufacturing facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat.

Suzuki Motor Corporation will channel Rs. 7,300 crore towards battery manufacturing. The company has also earmarked Rs. 3,100 crore towards Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) manufacturing. Suzuki will also open a vehicle recycling plant with an investment of Rs. 45 crore. The aforementioned manufacturing facilities will be up and running by 2026.

Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car is likely to be a mid-size SUV which will be co-developed with Toyota. It could be based on the 27PL skateboard platform, which is a derivative of Toyota’s 40PL platform. Naturally, we can expect Toyota to launch an electric SUV alongside the Maruti one as part of their joint venture.

Maruti Suzuki’s electric SUV is likely to be bigger than the best-selling compact SUV, the Hyundai Creta. Rumours also suggest that Maruti Suzuki and Toyota’s electric SUVs will offer 500km of range with India-made battery packs. Both SUVs will rival the Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV and Tata Nexon EV Long Range.
