Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Alto Expected Launch Date And Other Details | V3Cars
Maruti Suzuki are readying the 2022 Alto hatchback for the Indian market. It is likely to make its debut in late 2022 or early 2023. We expect the next-gen Alto to sit on Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform. The Heartect platform underpins multiple Maruti Suzuki cars, including the new Celerio, Wagon R, Swift, Ignis and the 2022 Baleno.
On the styling front, the new Alto is likely to take an evolutionary approach. The spy shots of the 2022 Alto suggest that it will not have an SUV stance like the S-Presso. Instead, it is likely to be slightly taller than the outgoing Alto and very similar to the new Celerio.
The new platform is likely to make the 2022 Alto taller and wider than before. This should presumably make the cabin more spacious than the outgoing model. In addition to that, the new Alto will finally get bigger wheels. The current model runs on 12-inch wheels and we expect the new Alto to get wheels that are a size bigger, at 13 inches.

We are yet to get a glimpse of the interior styling of the 2022 Alto. Nevertheless, it is likely to take some cues from the new Celerio and S-Presso. We expect the new Alto to take a leap in terms of plastic quality and storage spaces.
The 2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto is likely to carry forward the current 0.8L petrol engine. In the current model, this 3-cylinder petrol engine produces 47PS of power at 6000rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3500rpm. We also expect the new Alto to get the 1.0L Dual-jet petrol engine that powers the Maruti Suzuki Wagon-R and Celerio. Maruti Suzuki are likely to offer a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with the 1.0L engine.

The new Alto will take a big leap in terms of looks, features, space, and performance. The current-gen Alto is set to complete its 10-year anniversary this year. While the new Alto looks quite close to hitting the production line, we expect Maruti to defer its launch to next year. The homegrown carmaker already has a slew of product launches in the pipeline for this year. These include the 2022 Brezza, 2022 S-Cross, 2022 Ertiga and 2022 XL6 facelift. The new Alto will rival other affordable hatchbacks like the Renault Kwid and Datsun Redi-go.
