2023 Tata Safari Facelift Expected Vs Actual — Price Reaction | V3Cars

In this article, we’ll take a look at the 2023 Tata Safari facelift’s launch prices and see how close (or off) we were from our expected prices. This will help us better understand 2023 Safari’s pricing strategy and that of other upcoming cars with similar body style in this price range.

Expected vs Launch Price Comparison

We were expecting the Safari to start from Rs. 17.0 lakh and top out at Rs. 26.0 lakh while Tata ended up breaching our limits on both sides with the Safari. The Safari facelift’s prices start at Rs. 16.19 lakh and stretch up to Rs. 27.34 lakh. Our estimation for the starting price missed the mark as Tata introduced the Smart variant (without the O). However, the Safari Smart trim ended up only Rs. 31,000 below our expectation with a 1.82% deviation.

The subsequent Pure variant also came as a surprise as it was nowhere in the brochure at the time of the reveal. The Pure (O) variant also had a reasonable gap of 1.68% between our expectations and launch price.

As we move towards higher variants, we’ll see the deviation grow but it remains within our acceptable margin of error limit of 5%. Only the Accomplished Plus and Accomplished Plus dark breached this limit.

With the Safari automatic too, we got some variants, which were not mentioned in the brochure at the time of reveal. In this case as well, the lower variants were closer to our expectations while the Accomplished Plus breached our acceptable 5% deviation limit.

Price Reaction

With a base price of Rs. 16.19 lakh, the Safari has a slightly higher price than before. But, the base variant is also pretty well equipped and makes a lot more sense than before. However, as we move higher, we see the value deteriorate unless you jump higher still to variants with ADAS and panoramic sunroof. These features have a higher perceived value than the manufacturing cost and help cover the value-price gap.
