MG Windsor Base Model Real World Interior, Exterior Photos | V3Cars

So far, you may have seen a bunch of MG Windsor’s photos online but all of them are of the top variant. The only way to get up close with and explore the MG Windsor’s base variant is through the MG’s virtual showroom or configurator. However, even that shows a few things, which aren’t in alignment with the brochure. So, here are the first-ever, real photographs of the MG Windsor base model (Excite).

MG Windsor EV Base Variant Images Of Interior, Exterior

MG Windsor Base Excite Variant — Front View

The Windsor’s front looks pretty clean without the gloss black accessory, which gives it a petrol/diesel car like faux grille appearance.

One thing worth noting here is that the MG Windsor doesn’t get front parking sensors. It’s not mentioned in the brochure either but the MG’s configurator shows the Windsor with front parking sensors. The small cover just below the MG logo is to cover up the camera spot. The higher variants get the 360-degree feature while the base trim hides it with a cover.

The other features on the front are pretty standard like LED projector headlamps, LED DRLs, LED indicators, connected LED light bar and a mirror-like chrome accent on the headlamp cluster.

MG Windsor Base Variant — Rear View

The rear looks similarly clean and the lack of gloss black accessories gives it an even better road presence as there’s nothing to break the visual mass into smaller pieces.

The base variant doesn’t get rear defogger but there are a few lines on the rear windshield for the infotainment antenna, although they aren’t fully visible in these images.

The lighting kit around the back is fully LED. From indicators to stop light to marker light bar to reversing lights — you get the whole shebang.

Windsor Excite Base Trim — Side Image

Along the side, the most notable feature of the Windsor is the wheel covers. Yes. it doesn’t get alloy wheels and makes do with steel wheels and wheel covers.

The Windsor base model also doesn't get low-rolling resistance tyres we typically see in EVs. It rides on Apollo Apterras.  The higher variants get either Bridgestone Ecopia or Goodyear Efficient Grip. While the base variant benefits from the lower rotating mass of the wheels (17 inch vs 18 in higher variants), the lack of low rolling resistance tyres may balance that part out. Hence, you should expect a similar range with this variant too. However, if at a later date, we get LRR tyres in India of 215/60 R17 size, then we can expect the base variant to deliver better mileage.

The base variant also gets the same flush-fitting door handles like the higher trims. However, unlike the higher trims, they don’t pop out when you get close to the car or upon pressing the unlock button on the remote. So, you have to press it towards the front of the handle to pop out the rear. Then grab and pull it to open the door. It’s quite an exercise for your palm and fingers.

An advantage of skipping this feature is that people can’t just look at the car and tell if the car is locked or unlocked. When the car gets moving, the doors lock automatically around 10-15kmph. When that happens, the door handles also pop back in. But that’s in the higher trims. So, it’s clearly visible when the car is locked and when it’s not. This increases the risk of theft and robbery. Since the base trim’s handles remain flush all the time, they hide the lock/unlock status quite well.

MG Windsor Base Variant — Door Pad

The door pad inside the car is pretty bland but the door handle and unlock latch are in that rose gold shade. The door armrest also is not padded and is hard plastic. So, if you’re considering buying this variant then you should buy some aftermarket cushions for car, which come with a double sided tape.

MG Windsor Base Model — Front Seats

The fabric seats are mostly lacking the visual drama you see in the mid and top variants. There's no quilted cushioning here. But guess what! Because of the contouring and bucketing, the base variant’s seats are much more supportive than the ones with the leather upholstery.

You can see a small gutter in the centre of the seats towards the upper seat back. This helps with evaporating the excess moisture and improves the breathability. Since they are made of fabric, they breathe better than the mid and higher variants. The higher trims get the sofa-like cushioning with faux leather upholstery. While the top variant gets seat ventilation, rear seat occupants still have to live without it and sweat their bums out.

Front armrest is standard in all variants and it does get the leather treatment, which helps with maintaining its appearance.

MG Windsor Base — Console Storage

Under the front armrest console, there’s another one with a big storage and 2 USB ports — 1 A-type and the other C-type. The higher variants get a cover for this storage.

MG Windsor Base Trim — Headrests

There are 4 adjustable headrests in the car and they all get the faux leather treatment. So, they won’t accumulate smudges from the oil in our hair or skin. Cleaning these is as easy as wiping them with a wet towel.

MG Windsor Excite Variant — Steering, Instrument Cluster

The steering gets the same controls across all variants but there’s minimal rose gold accents on the spokes.

The other thing to note is that the instrument cluster is a small, 7-inch one. Just like the one you get in the Comet’s base trim. Not the fancy one you see in the MG’s online configurator.

MG Windsor Base Excite Variant — Touchscreen

The touchscreen is a normal size with 10-inch, diagonal. It gets wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. The infotainment gets 4 speakers — one in each door — and 2 tweeters. Sound quality is barely acceptable for an EV of this size and class.

Physical AC controls are just below the touchscreen but you can also use the screen to adjust the ventilation and air conditioning.

MG Windsor Base Model (Excite) — Dashboard

The patch on the dashboard with the cupholders extended all the way from one cup holder to the other. This part in the higher variants gets a rubberized feel with some padding. But in the Windsor base model, this part is hard plastic. Thankfully, this is not a common touchpoint and I didn’t miss the soft touch elements. This variant also doesn’t get any metallic and wooden accents on the dashboard.

MG Windsor Base Variant (Excite) — Back Seat Photo

In the back seat, you get 3-point seatbelts for 3 occupants but there are only 2 adjustable headrests. The centre passenger doesn’t even get a non-adjustable headrest. It’s available though in the higher variants.

Even the base trim gets split rear seatbacks with the legendary recline function but a rear centre armrest is missing. The rear seat backs also get that small gutter to help with moisture evaporation. Here too, the headrests are of leatherette type. Rear seat occupants also get an AC vent between the front 2 seats.
