Mercedes-Benz EQG Design And Features

Mercedes-Benz India had showcased the EQG as a concept SUV at the Bharat Mobility Expo earlier this year. The brand are now calling the EQG the G 580 with EQ Technology. The all-electric SUV boasts of all the iconic design features of the G-Class, including the round headlamps, fender-mounted turn indicators, and the slab-sided doors and tailgate with exposed hinges. Additionally, it also offers an enclosed and illuminated grille and redesigned bumpers. The tailgate-mounted spare wheel is replaced with a compartment for storing the charging cable. The electric G-Class also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels as standard.

On the inside, the G 580 offers twin 12.3-inch displays for the infotainment system and digital driver’s display. It also gets a multi-functional steering wheel with touch controls, voice assistant, and head-up display with augmented reality tech for navigation. We expect Mercedes-Ben to offer various accessories, including two 11.60-inch touchscreens for the rear passengers along with a Burmester audio system as part of the options list.

In terms of safety, the G 580 will offer a 360-degree surround camera and ADAS features such as lane-keeping assist, auto high beam, and more.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Electric Powertrain Specs

Mercedes-Benz have equipped the G 580 with 4 electric motors, with each wheel powered by its own motor. So expect the electric G-Class to be as capable as the petrol and diesel versions off the beaten path. The 4 electric motors combined produces a power output of 579PS and 1164Nm of torque. Mercedes-Benz claim the electric G-Class can hit 0-100kmph in just 4.7 seconds while the top speed is limited to 180kmph. It offers a claimed range of 473km (WLTP-cycle)

Mercedes-Benz G 580 Expected Price And Rivals

Considering the standard G-Class and G-Class AMG boast ex-showroom prices of Rs. 1.72 crore and Rs. 2.55 crore, we expect the electric G-Class to cost above Rs. 3.0 crore (ex-showroom). When launched towards the end of 2024, the electrified G-Class will not have any direct rivals in India. However, the Lamborghini Urus, which is currently priced above Rs. 4.0 crore, can be considered a rival to the G-Class electric although both SUVs offer differing powertrains and driving dynamics.
