Mahindra Thar Roxx 2024: Expected vs Launch Price Comparison

Price Reaction — Base Price Spot On

Now, let’s examine the launch and expected prices of the Thar Roxx in a little more detail.

Since we didn’t know the variant lineup, variant-powertrain combinations and variant-wise features, it was nearly impossible to estimate the prices of all variants. But we have known Mahindra long enough to have a pretty good idea that they would offer it at an attractive starting price. That’s why the Rs. 12.99 lakh ex-showroom (or Rs. 13.0 lakh) was our estimation for the Thar Roxx base model price.

2024 Mahindra Thar Roxx (Thar 5-Door) Expected Price — With Logic

The lack of a variant-wise feature breakdown left us without knowledge about the features of the top model. Although, after seeing the features of the top variant, it’s abundantly clear that it wasn’t very difficult to estimate the prices of the Thar Roxx higher variants if we had the brochure.

Lots Of 2WD Variants — As Expected

Another estimation that came true was that the Thar Roxx would come with a lot of 2WD variants to tap into the C-segment SUVs marketshare. Higher variants of the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara and Tata Curvv are the prime targets of the Thar Roxx.

Mahindra have purposely not announced the 4WD variants’ pricing so that they can first cater to the 2WD C-SUV buyers before reaching for the buyers interested in 4WD. While they are busy accumulating bookings for the Thar Roxx, they can also gauge the demand for the 4WD. This will not only help them achieve a suitable pricing, but also decide the pace of production for the Roxx 4WD.

Diesel Engine Premium — A Surprise Move

Another area where our estimation went a little sideways is with the premium for diesel engine variants. While we expected Mahidnra to price the diesel engine at a lower premium of Rs. 60,000, they ended up positioning it at a Rs. 1.0 lakh price gap over the comparable petrol engine variants.

Here’s a quick look at the launch prices of the 2024 Mahindra Roxx:

Mahindra will later bring the four diesel-4WD variants of the Roxx — 2 with manual and 2 with automatic transmission. The Roxx 4WD diesel-manual will come in MX5 and AX7 L while the 4WD diesel-automatic will arrive in AX5 L and AX7 L variants. We expect the 4WD to carry a premium of about Rs. 1.50 - 2.0 lakh over the comparable 2WD variants.
