Mahindra KUV100 NTX Launch And Update Timeline

• The Mahindra KUV100 was launched in India in January 2016. At launch, it was priced from Rs. 4.42 lakh to Rs. 6.76 lakh (ex-showroom)
• The KUV100 was the second Mahindra product to feature a monocoque chassis after the XUV500
• The KUV100 was initially offered with 5- and 6-seater options. The KUV100 6-seater featured a bench seat with a foldable middle section in the front row. Once folded, the middle seat could be used as an armrest and it even featured cup holders on the seatback
• The KUV100 was offered with 2 engines at launch – a 1.2L normal petrol and a 1.2L turbo diesel engine
• The 1.2L normal petrol was the first-ever petrol engine Mahindra developed themselves. The 3-cylinder engine produced 82PS of power and 115Nm of torque
• The KUV100’s petrol engine’s power and torque outputs were comparable to that of the Grand i10 (82PS and 114Nm) and Swift (84PS and 115Nm)
• The in-house developed 1.2L turbo diesel engine produced 77PS of power and 190Nm of torque
• The KUV100’s diesel engine’s power and torque outputs were more than Grand i10 diesel (70PS and 160Nm) and Swift diesel (75PS and 190Nm)
• Even before ABS became mandatory for all cars sold in India, Mahindra offered the active safety feature as standard on all variants of the KUV100. They also offered optional dual airbags right from the base variant
• Within 2 years of its launch, Mahindra gave the KUV100 its mid-life facelift and called the updated model the KUV100 NXT
• The KUV100 NXT was priced from Rs. 4.39 lakh to Rs. 7.33 lakh and continued to feature both petrol and diesel engine options
• Apart from a refreshed exterior, the major highlight of the KUV100 NXT was the addition of a touchscreen infotainment system
• The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system was borrowed from the top variant of the Mahindra TUV300. The KUV100NXT also offered 4 speakers and 2 tweeters in the higher variants
• Unlike its major rival the Ignis, the KUV100 NXT did not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay
• Mahindra took away the 6-seater option with the launch of the KUV100 NXT
• The carmaker showcased an all-electric version of the KUV100, the eKUV100, at the 2018 Auto Expo in Greater Noida
• The eKUV100 was spotted testing several times but Mahindra never launched the electric car 
• Starting late 2021, several rumours and media reports claimed the KUV100 would face the axe that year or in 2022. However, Mahindra continued to offer the KUV100 in the BS6 era, which kicked off on April, 2020
• For the BS6 era, Mahindra pulled the plug on the 1.2L turbo diesel engine as the carmaker did not find it feasible to update an engine that powered just 1 model in their portfolio.
• Since the start of 2021, the Mahindra KUV100 registered single digit sales every month.

Poor Sales Leads To Discontinuation 

Since launch, the KUV100 went up against formidable rivals, such as the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Arena Swift and Maruti Nexa Ignis. Most prospective B1-segment buyers overlooked the Mahindra KUV100 NXT as it had an oddball design and looked dated compared to the refreshed models from Hyundai and Maruti, and that reflects in the KUV100’s sales chart. Mahindra sold just 1 unit of the XUV100 NXT in the past 3 months. In 2022, the carmaker just sold 7 units of the cross-hatch, which suggests that Mahindra stopped production of the KUV100 long ago and the units sold since were unsold stock the company or its dealer’s stockyards. With the official demise of the KUV100 NXT, the XUV300 became the most affordable Mahindra SUV in the country, with a starting price of Rs. 8.42 lakh (ex-showroom).
