Mahindra: Long Waiting Periods Due To High Demand, Not Chip Shortage | V3Cars

Earlier this month, Mahindra revealed that they have overcome the shortage of semiconductor chips. Every auto manufacturer faced the semiconductor shortage at some point in time and Mahindra weren’t safe either. However, the Indian SUV maker now faces bigger challenges than the shortage of chips.

Mahindra XUV700

At the conference, Mahindra officials stated that high demand and comparatively low production are the reasons behind the large backlog of orders. Currently, the waiting periods for the XUV700, Thar and Scorpio N are sky-high. To solve the problem, Mahindra are working on a solution to ramp up production. In addition to that, they assured that no model will cannibalise the sales of the others and the rise in production will benefit all 3 aforementioned models.

Currently, the Mahindra XUV700 commands a waiting period of 20-24 months, depending on the powertrain and variant. Mahindra are yet to deliver over 1.46 lakh units of the Thar, XUV700 and Scorpio N to customers. Even after around 2 years since its launch, the Mahindra Thar still commands a waiting period of 7-8 months.

The Mahindra Scorpio N is the latest offering from the Indian SUV maker and it has garnered huge interest from car buyers. The Scorpio N received over 25,000 bookings in just 1 minute since bookings opened. That number rose to 1 lakh within the next half an hour! Meanwhile, Mahindra have also opened bookings for the heavily-revised Scorpio Classic, which is slated to go on sale on August 20.
