Hyundai India Tie Up With IRTE, Traffic Police To Reimagine Traffic Management & Road Safety With A Dose Of Tech | V3Cars

Hyundai India recently inaugurated Technical Engineering Centre (TEC) & Organization Development Centre (ODC). They will work with Institute Of Road Traffic Education (IRTE) & Gurugram Traffic Police. IRTE is an organisation, which works with educational institutions, city management authorities, law enforcement and civil engineers in various aspects to improve the safety of road users.

Hyundai Rethink Road Safety & Traffic Mgmt w/ IRTE, Traffic Police

According to Dr. Rohit Baluja, often, the road user is not at fault for having broken a law and getting into an accident. Sometimes, the speed sign is hidden behind trees and branches and sometimes, the speed limit is too low for a road where the traffic naturally moves at a faster pace. On such a road, slowing down can be more dangerous than following the speed limit. In many cases, the road signs and infrastructure ends up creating nuisance for the road users and causes long traffic jams.

To address these and many more issues, Hyundai’s new Technical Education Centre will train the police officials so that they can be better equipped to manage and hopefully avoid such situations. Meanwhile, the Organization Development Centre will fill up the technology gap. Through this initiative, Hyundai have installed several cameras to start assessing the traffic patterns at certain crossroads and junctions in Gurugram. These will be monitored closely to understand the driver's behaviour. Meanwhile, advanced pattern recognition algorithms will use these videos to identify areas of improvements and recommend changes.

The TEC-trained Gurugram Traffic Police officials will then implement these recommendations at these locations. Once fully-deployed, the new data will tell us how well the improvements are helping with improving the flow of traffic and road safety for road users. Those changes, which bring about the biggest of improvements, will be gradually rolled out to more regions of the city.

IRTE also intend to educate the young generation about road safety at schools and colleges so that the future drivers in India hit the roads with better understanding of road safety and their contribution in keeping roads safer.
