Tata Motors demonstrated to the other carmakers in India that there’s strong demand for a smaller SUV below the Nexon. Since the launch, the Punch has become a consistent performer despite the lack of a turbo petrol engine. It routinely manages 5-figure sales every month. Maruti Suzuki are trying to eat into that space with the Fronx. Hyundai’s announcement confirms that the Fronx will not enjoy a long period of limited competition like the Punch did.
Hyundai's small SUV will most likely go on sale around June - July of 2023 and will become their festive star. Rumours suggest that this new small SUV from Hyundai will use the same platform as the Grand i10 Nios. Just like the Fronx, this new SUV will most likely be longer than the Punch. Engine options for this SUV could include the 1.2L normal petrol engine and a 1.0L turbo petrol engine. It’s too early to gauge the pricing but it should align with those of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
