Hyundai Kona EV Discontinued In India

Hyundai India have removed the Kona EV from their website, marking the discontinuation of the electric SUV. The Kona EV was launched in India in July 2019 at a price of Rs. 23.72 lakh (ex-showroom). Hyundai’s electric SUV, which rivalled the MG ZS EV, retailed at Rs. 23.84 lakh a month ago.

Meanwhile, Hyundai are offering the new-gen Kona EV in international markets. However, this model is unlikely to come to India as it is expected to be priced higher than the now-discontinued model. Instead, Hyundai India will replace the Kona EV with the Creta EV in early 2025. Since the Creta EV will feature more localised parts, including the battery pack, we expect it to get a starting price of under Rs. 20.0 lakh while the top variant is likely to cost around Rs. 25.0 lakh.

Apart from the impending launch of the Creta EV in 6-7 months, the low sales figures of the Kona EV can also be attributed to its discontinuation. In the last 2 months, Hyundai failed to sell a single unit of the Kona EV. In fact, in the period between January and March 2024, Hyundai sold just 259 units of the electric SUV. In comparison, MG have sold an average of 487 units of the ZS EV in the same 3-month period.

Hyundai Likely To Offer Heavy Discounts On Kona EV In July 2024

Over the last couple of months, Hyundai were offering the Kona EV with a discount of up to Rs. 3.0 lakh. However, some dealers still have unsold stocks and these are likely to be offered with a heavier discount in July 2024. Stay tuned for our Hyundai July offers story for more details.

The ARAI-rated range of the Kona EV is 452km, which is 9km less than the MG ZS EV’s claimed range.
