Advantages Of Twin CNG Cylinder Technology
Twin smaller cylinders enable manufacturers to offer more usable boot space without sacrificing CNG capacity. For instance, Tata Motors introduced their twin-cylinder technology last year. They eliminated the need for a large 60-litre tank in the luggage area by using two smaller 30-litre tanks that sit below a slightly raised but flat and more usable boot. Tata now offers their twin-cylinder CNG tech in all their CNG cars, including the Altroz, Punch, Tigor and Tiago.
Meanwhile, Hyundai is likely to expand their CNG lineup by offering models like the i20 and Venue with CNG bi-fuel powertrains.
The i20 and Venue share the same 1.2L petrol engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter. We expect these models to arrive soon. Hyundai were also spied testing the Creta CNG as far back as 2022. The Kia Carens, which uses the same naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Creta and Verna, also appeared in spy shots with a CNG powertrain recently. Therefore, we expect the Creta’s CNG variants to arrive by late-2024 or early 2025. Meanwhile, Hyundai is also developing an all-electric powertrain for the Creta SUV.
