Hyundai CNG Cars Likely To Offer More Boot Space Soon – Trademarks Hy-CNG Duo Twin Cylinder Tech | V3Cars

Hyundai latest trademark applications suggest they could offer twin CNG cylinder technology, as seen in the CNG variants of the 2024 Tata Punch, Tata Tiago and Tata Tigor. Currently, Hyundai offer 3 CNG models – the Grand i10 Nios hatchback, Aura sedan and the Exter small SUV. Hence, these models are likely to get the dual-cylinder technology first.

Hyundai Twin CNG Cylinder Tech For Grand i10 Nios, Aura And Exter Incoming?

Trademark applications from May 2024 reveal what could become Hyundai’s new nomenclature for their CNG vehicles. While Hyundai are yet to confirm the news, we expect all Hyundai CNG models to carry the Hy-CNG suffix after the model name. Hy-CNG Duo, on the other hand, is expected to be dual-cylinder technology, which was first introduced in the country by Tata Motors.

Having twin smaller cylinders allows manufacturers to offer more usable boot space without compromising on CNG capacity. For example, Tata Motors introduced their twin-cylinder technology last year where they eliminated the need for a big 60-litre tank in the luggage area by opting for smaller 30-litre tanks that sit below a slightly raised but flat and more usable boot. Tata’s twin-cylinder CNG tech is now available in all of their CNG cars, including the Altroz, Punch, Tigor and Tiago.

Meanwhile, Hyundai are likely to expand their CNG lineup by offering models such as the i20, Venue, Creta and the Verna with CNG bi-fuel powertrains. The i20 and the Venue share the same 1.2L petrol engine with the Grand i10 Nios, Aura and Exter. So we expect these models to arrive first. On the other hand, test mules of the Creta CNG were spotted testing as far back as 2022. The Kia Carens, which gets the same naturally aspirated petrol engine as the Creta and Verna, too was spied with a CNG powertrain recently. Hence, we expect the CNG variants of the Verna and Creta to arrive by late-2024 or early 2025. Hyundai are also developing an all-electric powertrain for the Creta SUV and you can read more about it by clicking the link below.
